We regrouped shortly after the masked swordsmans appearance, Chrom and I keeping Lissa safe as we tried to make our way back to Frederick and Robin. The fiends had scattered about the forest, lighting up the ember filled sky with their glowing red eyes. Even the way they moved made me sick to my stomach; it was as if they were pulling themselves along, their steps uncoordinated and sloppy. Once they spotted one of us, they would howl in rage and charge.
However, Chrom and I soon realized that what the fiends excelled for in strength, they lacked in wits. We could easily sidestep or parry their blows, and when I finally managed to regain my shield, we began to have the upper hand against them. As another of the fiends fell with a slash from my blade, I began to hear the familiar rumble of hooves upon the ground. Suddenly, one of the approaching fiends fell to the ground, a lance stabbed into it's back as a horse and its rider charged in. There was no mistaking the flash of red I saw as the rider moved to the fiend and roughly pulled the lance from the body that was now disappearing into smoke.
"Captain Chrom! Commander Y/N! You guys still kicking?! Bah, I knew I shouldn't have left ya!" Shouted Sully, the no-nonsense cavalier of our little band. I had the, uh... "privelage" of knowing her when she was younger, and even as she grew, she never lost that potty mouth of hers. As she approached the three of us, another roar echoed from her side as yet another fiend tried to approach her; but it didnt get very far, for an arrow swiftly found it's way through its skull, and it fell to the ground in a heap.
I raised an eyebrow as a man with finely combed, light blue hair emerged from the treeline, a smug look on his face as he approached Sully and I. Judging by the way he dressed and presented himself, I wouldnt be surprised if I wanted to kick this guy in the dick as soon as he opened his mouth.
Then again, Sully has probably already done that.
"Haha! Another magnificent feat of marksmanship from the archest of archers! A tribute worthy of but a small, lip-bound reward, no?" He said, looking at Sully while wiggling his eyebrows.
Oh yeah. Shes kicked him. Hundred percent.
I raised both of my eyebrows and gave Sully a look that said "Really?".
She sighed, shaking her head as she pulled away from the fancy looking man. "Long story. Let's just get out of here first." The crimson cavalier told me, and I nodded as the five of us moved to clear out the rest of the fiends, Chrom and I doing our best to prevent this newcomer from coming too close to our younger sister.-------------------------
It took a bit of doing, but eventually, the forest was clear of all monstrosities, and our group was reunited at last. Sully begrudgingly took Virion to scout the perimeter and be doubly sure while the rest of us waited for them to come back. Thankfully, no one was wounded, but Lissa approached Frederick and Robin with a bit of a frightened shriek. "Oh my Gods, are you guys okay!? Those things were everywhere!" She exclaimed, flailing her arms around in a slight panic. Frederick, in customary fashion, merely bowed at Lissa.
"Nothing we couldnt handle, milady. Robin and I made short work of them, loathe as I am to trust in her abilities at the moment." The knight reported, and I could see Robin look down sadly at his words. I gave Frederick a small glare before I moved over to her and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, you did good out there, Robin. Not many people can claim to walk out of an ambush of monsters unscathed." I told her, giving her a slight smile. She looked up at me with a tinge of red on her face and nodded, her usual bright smile returning. However, she quickly looked away, fidgeting with her hands as she tried to find something else to focus on, that thing being Chrom.
"Are such ghastly creatures commonplace in these lands?" She asked him as I removed my hand from her shoulder and stepped back to allow her some room. Chrom laughed grimly, shaking his head as I placed a hand on my chin, my mind racing with the thought of these fiends. "They're not from Ylisse, I can promise you that. Y/N?" He asked, turning to me. My eyes were closed as I reflected back upon our combat with the monsters, and a sigh left me as I shook my head.
