I can't really recall how long we were flying for, mainly because I kept my eyes closed for the majority of the flight. My arms were wrapped tightly around Sumia's middle as soon as we took off, the fear of falling ever present in my mind. Unbeknownst to me, Sumia was smiling the whole ride, enjoying every second that pegasus was in the air. As the wind surrounding us got colder, I hesitantly opened my eyes to see where we were. Snow was falling around us, and the scenery had turned white and mountainous. It seemed like we had finally reached the border of Ferox, much quicker than I had anticipated. Or perhaps my mind just blocked out the travel for the fear of flying...
"Sumia! I think we're getting close! We should fly lower so we can see the convoy!" I shouted through the whipping of the wind. The pink covered knight looked behind her with a nod at my call, grasping the reins tightly.
"Roger that, Commander! Hyah!" She shouted, whipping the reigns as she did so. The pegasus let out a high pitched whine as it dived downward, and we pushed through a blanket of harsh wind and snow. It seemed like there was a small blizzard in progress, and I clicked my tongue as we moved forward, though my arms were still wrapped tightly around Sumia's middle.
Slowly, the fog of war the snow presented cleared as a light source appeared in the distance. A long building stretching quite a distance east and west appeared in our vision, torches lit promptly upon its walls. There was only one thing this could be; the Longfort. It served essentially as the border for Regna Ferox, as it was flanked mostly by mountains, leaving the quickest, and safest, way to get into their lands by the gates of this checkpoint. However, despite our convoy having reached the border, trouble was still brewing. From the back of the pegasus, I could spy the Shepherds standing a short distance away from the gates, where we shut tightly despite their presence. On the walls were heavily armored Knights, javelins pointed down at my brother, who was looking up at the wall these Feroxi occupied.
"I dont like the look of this. Sumia, get us down there quick, before things get any worse!" I commanded, pulling my sword out of its sheath. Sumia nodded once again, and with a small crack of the reigns, we began to dive towards Chrom. Tensions seemed to have flared as we approached, as the lancers raised their javelins higher. The pegasus rushed quicker and quicker to our target, but one of the guards atop the wall called for a barrage!
With a grunt, I leapt from the back of the pegasus and landed gruffly in front of my brother, shield raised defiantly as the javelins struck and bounced off harmlessly. A collective gasp was heard behind me as I stood up, searching for Sumia in the sky.
"Sumia, fly lower! Dont let any archers get a sight of you!"
The airborne knight slowed her advance as a result, pulling her mount so that she could circle around us. With a swish of my cape, I turned back to the Shepherds and looked towards my brother disapprovingly.
"Just give me the short version."
Chrom shook himself from his stupor and nodded, pointing up to the opening on top of the walls where one of the Knights stood, dressed in a set of dark green armor. She wore no helmet unlike the other Knights, so I could see her short, blonde hair from here, and her gaze was kept strictly on us while her lancers stood at the ready for another barrage.
"There's a misunderstanding. That woman seems to think we're brigands trying to sneak into Ferox." Chrom told me, shaking his head as he did so. The news surprised me some; was Ferox having bandit problems as well? Who exactly would want to sneak into Ferox of all places? I suppose it would be a good place for an outlaw to hide out, anyway...
I shook my head with a sigh, refocusing on the battle in front of us. No matter the reason, these people wouldnt let us pass without a fight.
"Alright little brother, what's the plan?" I asked, looking down to Chrom as I gripped my sword tightly. In response, Chrom drew Falchion from his belt, a determined expression appearing on his face.
