Chapter Two

9 1 1

As the day rolled over to the next I was awoken by the commotion of the boys taking it in turns to use the bathroom. After laying awake for a few minutes, I sat up and scraped my hair back into the messy bun that it had escaped from as I was sleeping. Dan had just finished in the bathroom as he made his way back through the bus, passing me and smiling a friendly smile with beaming eyes, which I happily returned. The next into the bathroom was Paighsley, who I noticed came from Rajesh's direction of the bus rather than her own. I decided to let it swoop over me until I noticed Josh and Max make the same connection. We all gave each other a look and giggled a little before Josh looked down at his watch to give him something to break the awkward silence with.

"Right, it's 7.30am guys, we've got half an hour to get in and rehearse, let's go! Last one in the bus has to tidy up tonight!" He said cheekily as he skipped out of the bus before the rest of the band could argue.

After some convincing, we all stumbled out of the tour bus and into the venue to rehearse. The venue in Glasgow was more than big enough, and there was a buzz amongst us as we knew that the tickets had sold out. I always wish I had perused a life in music rather than the business side of it. I watch bands rehearse and perform for a living and I can't help but watch them with longing eyes, no matter how successful they are. I always feel like I should be doing more than assisting the manager, and I can't help but feel useless as I follow everyone around on the daily but never feel as though it's my place to pitch in. There I was, pondering about how boring my job can be and suddenly it dawned on me that Josh hadn't had the breakfast I promised him.

I excused myself from the venue quickly and nipped across the road to grab his white coffee with oat milk and vegan cheese bagel. I skipped back into the room feeling smug that I had kept to the deal that he had set, and I walked towards him.

"Did someone order a white coffee, oat milk of course, and a vegan cheese bagel?" I said loudly as I looked around the room, jokily not acknowledging Josh's presence.

"I thought you'd never ask" he responded with a smirk as he took his breakfast from my hands and stared into my eyes contact for a peaceful yet uncomfortably long time.

                                                                                      ~~~
Rehearsals and sound check were complete and we had the rest of the day to roam freely around Glasgow. Paighsley and Rajesh secluded themselves from the rest of us and decided they would meet us back at the venue at 5 ready to warm up and relax before the gig. They wandered off, their hands intertwined and their shoulders practically overlapping from where their bodies were impossibly close.
"Hey, Kethryn! Where'd you wanna go?" Max asked me, distracting me from Rajesh and Paighsley and catching me off guard. This was the first time that I can remember the band that I'm touring with actually making an effort to make me feel comfortable.
"Oh it's up to you guys! I wouldn't want to spoil your fun" I said, purposefully not committing to any idea that might oppose theirs.
"Nahhh come on! Assistant manager surely deserve a say!" Josh pitched in as he walked over from the edge of the group and nudged me supportively whilst grinning.
"Fineee, how about we grab a bite somewhere and go bowling to kill some time?" The idea of bowling made Max's chocolate brown eyes lit up like a little boy, and the rest of the band grinned at him as they clearly knew some sort of story that I didn't. However, it was very clear that bowling was a good idea.
"I'll take that as a yes" I laughed as I settled my gaze on Max and we exchanged beaming smiles for a few seconds.
As we walked aimlessly to find somewhere to grab some food, I began to lose myself in my own thoughts about some of the encounters I had with the boys. First it was Josh's charming smirk when he demanded and also received his breakfast. Then it was Dan's friendly smile as he walked through the bus, and now Max's chocolate brown eyes staring into my own for longer than usual. I could feel myself slowly forming connections with all of them, but I stopped these thoughts immediately in their tracks as I remembered how I started this tour: not wanting any drama.
It was then that Josh brushed past me, purposefully knocking into my shoulder on his way. He turned his head to face me and gestured in the opposite direction to the other boys with his eyes. Noticing my confused expression as I caught up to him, he smirked and muttered "Well you got my bagel, didn't you? So now it's my turn, Kethryn."
