"We need to move forward", my mom says as she is slightly blown back by the gusting winds. We journeyed up the rather dangerous hill. We are parched of thirst and our tongues cleave to our jaws. Our hunger grew; we'd already been through two whole days without a single source of nutrition. We were close to the point where we were able to count our every bone. We neared the peak by noon and we all gasped when we caught a glimpse of the bright sun. A small tree provided a minuscule amount of shade at the peak. We rushed with the little energy that we contained. We each sit propped up against the trunk of the tree. Without saying a single thing we sat in utter silence. It seems that we all heard a trickle of water simultaneously. We turned in its direction. Our vision failed us as we saw double everything. We tried to standup but faltered on the way. Could it be a hallucination? We stay silent hoping that we hear the water trickling once again, and we do, only this time it's directly behind us. We crawled, seeing double. The night was pitch black and the moon, our only source of light. Each of us used each other for support. Our arms were outstretched seeking a source of sustainability that would literally decide our fate of a death of suffering or life. We continued our crawling until I hear Tom exclaim gladly in excitement,"I feel it, its here. Come." We crawl in the direction of his voice. Mother stumble and nearly collapses, before arriving at the trickle of water. My brother, cups his hands and although almost inaudible, I can hear the water pour out into his hands. I am next. I lean over and assume the angle of the steady stream. I then, cup my hands in the way Tom had and listen to the water pour out onto my dirty hands. We each take our desired drink before laying flat in the sand and stare at the moon lit sky. The North Star, the brightest star in the sky shone bright above our heads. "The North Star." I whisper. Our second source of light and our sense of hope.
