"Ok. Ok. Break it up you love birds." April said jokingly, whilst pulling us apart. Ren wiped his tears with the end of his sleeve and gave a small smile.
The bell rang to mark the end of lunch and thats when I realized I haven't eaten anything all day. My stomach growled on cue. We all laughed.
My final class for today was dance. I head towards the dance studio with my bag. Opening the door, I see I am the first to arrive. I go change in the bathroom into my skins and short sleeve top accompanied by my white sketches.
Not long after the instructor and students arrive. We all sit in a circle facing the teacher. All 13 of us. "Ok class, today we have a new student and our first male dancer Ren." She said happily. Ren stood up and introduced himself like before. "I have been dancing since I was eight so it has been ten years." Same as me.
With introductions over, we all did a quick warm-up before getting into a game. Mrs. Parker liked to play games every now and then. This time it was a freestyle dance. Mrs plays a song and whoever wants to dance to it steps out and goes for it. Mrs hits play. The first few songs aren't really my style. The next song that plays is one of my favourites and before I can step out, Ren runs out and begins to dance. The song is G-Dragon: Untitled 2014. A nice slow song.
Ren moves to the music, his steps as light as air. His movements fit the song perfectly as if he spent hours carefully choreographing it himself. I was in a trance. He moved so elegantly, never breaking his rhythm. Shivers were constantly bring sent down my spine, I had goosebumps. Mrs. Parker couldn't take her eyes off him, she forgot about the activity and just let him dance until the song ended.
He finished as gracefully as he danced. A tear fell from my eye. "That was absolutely breathtaking. Where did you learn to do that?" Mrs. Parker asked.
Ren took a moment to catch his breath before answering. "I did contemporary classes a few years ago, my mother was my teacher." He looked at me and mouthed 'sorry'.
"Ok. Let's keep this moving. Next song." Mrs hits play and another student comes out to dance. Ren stands next to me.
"Sorry about before. I really wanted to dance to that song." He smiled. He is so smiley
"All good. That was amazing! You were so graceful and OMG!" I fangirled a little. Oops. "I didn't know you liked G-Dragon."
"It's not something I really tell people but I love K-pop." He said shyly.
"Really! Me too!" From there we talked about our favourate groups and whatnot, eventually leading on to American artists that we like.
The song finished and the next song that played was Hyuk: Way to You. I took no time running into the center. My body feeling the song. His voice wrapping me in a warm blanket. I danced gracefully to the gentle song. The lyrics spoke to me. My body moved on its own as if the song was apart of my entity.
My mind was flooded with memories of times I spent with my mother in the warm summer sun, then clouds fell over that sky when I was reminded of the day she died. Tears fell from my eyes as I danced. The song ended quicker than I thought possible. Mrs. Parker was in aw. I walked back to my spot and saw Ren giving me a big smile. He pats me on the shoulder. "Good Job."
As the bell rang to announce the end of the day, Mrs. Parker summoned Ren and me to her office. "What you two did in freestyle today was beautiful. I am at a loss for words, and for that reason, I wanted to suggest something to the both of you. This year they are holding a dance competition for high school students. The winners get a scholarship to Deaken University to partake in their dance program. However, the reason I am not telling the other students about it is that only two students can partake in the competition. One male and one female and I would be honored to have you two representing our school."
I couldn't believe my ears. This was life-changing. I looked over to Ren. He looked at me and we both nodded. "We accept," we said in unison. Mrs. Parker has never smiled brighter than she did just then.
"Ok I'll discuss the other details at a later date, but for now just get your parents to sign these forms and hand them in to me by tomorrow."
Once we left the office we both let out excited squeals of delight. We jumped around and gave each other a big hug. Once we reliezed how close we were, we quickly parted. This was the best and worst day of my life.
