Feeling of Abandonment

As I looked at the lady in my Father's arms I felt something grow inside of me. It started with this empty feeling in my stomach, and then all this weight on my heart. He had moved on, but what if I hadn't? I could never tell him such a childish thing. I looked behind me to see the same troubling looks across both of my brother's faces.

I stepped off the bottom step and went to greet this lady. Mask on and a warm smile in place. She stepped out of Father's arms and with an equally warm smile, we shook hands. Her eyes were very blue, something I hadn't been able to tell at a distance.

I glanced at my Father who was looking at her like she was some big prize he was lucky enough to win. The room started to spin around me. I looked to my Father for some support but he was too focused on this strange lady. A strange lady who looked all too familiar. The more I watched them, the more it made sense. Father had just found his dead wife in a living body.
