*Addisons pov*
I pull the door open as the officers jump out of the cruiser. I grunt as I see Kamden, at least someone was with him this time... hopefully someone with some brains.
Kamden trots up to the door, a scowl broad on his face. "How come whenever I see you, it's always because of trouble."
"It's attracted to me." I shrug.
"Nothing would ever be attracted to you if they were smart." He mutters.
I roll my eyes and let him walk past me into the house.
"The operator said that there was a break in. Possibly some blood?" The guy next to Kamden offered up, he glanced at me. His eyes searched me.
"The kitchen is this way." I nod and walk through the living room into the opening of the kitchen. The glass shards lay all over the floor, some even covered the island in the middle of the room. Blood covered the floor in front of the patio doors.
Kamden bent down and looked closely at the shards of glass, his partner had all of his attention trained on the blood. It wasn't much, just droplets here and there.
I fought the urge to swipe the pieces of glass off the marble counters. Knowing that Kamden wouldn't contain his anger if he realized what I'd done. Instead I filled the teapot and set it on the stove.
Kamden finally stood and glanced at me, "The crime labs team will be here shortly to get this cleaned up, I'll call someone to replace your door but it'll have to wait until tomorrow." He glanced at his watch.
"Is there somewhere you are able to stay for the night? In case you don't feel safe here?" His partner asks.
Reserved.
That's the word I would use to describe this young man. Very very reserved and quiet, maybe even sweet. The complete opposite of Kamden. I sneak a glance at him.
He lifts an eyebrow, probably wondering the same as his partner.
"Umm." I swallow, "Yeah I can call my friend and see if I can stay with her for the night."
Who could I call? Laney might let me stay at her place but I don't like being an inconvenience to anyone.
I could also call Conner or Jace, I'd prefer not to stay with either of them unless I absolutely have to. Which in this case it's not a do or die situation. I'd much rather sleep in my car than have to ask anyone for help.
"Addy?" I shake my head and look at Kamden, he must have been attempting to talk to me.
"Hmm?"
"I asked if I need to transport you to where you're staying?"
I glance at his arm which is still in a sling. "From the looks of things you can't be transporting anyone or anything to any certain location."
He scowls and glanced at his partner, "Addy this is Alex, he's my partner in this case for the time being. He would love to transport you if you need it."
"Hopefully he's a better driver than you." I mutter, he shoots me a dark look.
A car pulls into the driveway, the lights flashing across the front porch and lighting up the living room.
"I'll just go pack a few things." I grab my phone from off the counter and head down the long hallway to the bedroom.
I type in Laneys number and wait as it heads for voicemail, I leave a short message explaining the situation and asking her to call back.
I open the drawers of my dresser and pull out a pair of jeans and a couple shirts, I shove them in the bag.
The front door opens and I hear Kamden and Alex talking to someone.
Hopefully trying to figure out what is going on because living like this is getting extremely tiring. I glance at the picture of our family that sits on the nightstand next to my bed. It was taken moments after Joy had been born, I was crying, Mark was laughing and baby joy looked like she was about to start screaming at any second.
I shut off the light and close the door to my bedroom as I make my way down the hallway, I glance to the room on the left, the door was slightly creaked open. I stop in my tracks.
I set the bag on the floor, the door was creaked open.
I had closed it, hadn't I? Of course I had.
I push the door open further with my foot, my eyes widening as they take in the room. The beautiful yellow nursery that was meant for Joy. The room that had not one speck of dust or dirt in it, the room that was perfect.. actually perfect, neat and tidy.
The lamp that had been sitting next to the rocking chair, lay on the floor. The stuffed animals and books that had been on the bookshelf were strewn across the room. Droplets of blood are splattered across the cream carpet.
"Kam." I shout.
I walk over to the closet which is right next to the window.
  "Kamden." I yell again.
"Ka-." The window next to me breaks as something crashes through it, I scream and cover my head with my hands. Glass from the window sprays down on my back and on my head, tiny pieces stabbing into my arms.
The door swings open, "Addison." Kamden grabs onto my arm and drags me towards the door. "I'll take her." He says to Alex as he leads me down the hallway.
"Where are we going?" I ask as he leads me towards the door.
"Crime scene is already in the nursery and Alex has checked the perimeter. We are getting in the car and we are getting out of here."
