A few days later, I woke up to a notification from the TOY app. With just a tap, I could check my current points. Still a bronze, but I'm only about eighty points away from silver. When I saw the notification for a general game later that night, limited to a few people, I immediately clicked to book my spot.
But there's a catch. The game requires a partner.
Mingyu comes to mind, but then I remember our escapade in the swimming pool and blush at the memory. Definitely not Mingyu.
So, who should I ask?
Right on cue, a text message pops up from an unknown number.
Unknown:
Sohye?
Me:
Yes, it's me
Who is this?
A reply arrives not too long after.
Unknown:
It's me Seungcheol
There's a general game tonight
Do you wanna partner up? :)
I don't even need to think twice, so I immediately reply.
Me:
Call
I feel a nervous energy coursing through me, evident in the way I can't stop biting my nails as I wait for Seungcheol's arrival on the third floor, where the general game will take place.
When the lift door chimes open, I turn eagerly, expecting to see Seungcheol, but instead, I'm met with the sight of Wonwoo in his Watcher uniform.
"Hi," he says, his expression neutral, much like the first time I saw him observing.
I muster a quiet "Hi" in return.
Wonwoo doesn't linger, walking past me and into the room, leaving me to ponder.
Seungcheol's arrival breaks my reverie, his excitement contagious and a welcome distraction from my thoughts of Wonwoo.
As we enter the room, we're directed to our assigned booth. There are several booths, six in total, indicating the number of couples participating in tonight's general game.
"Are you okay?" Seungcheol's concern is evident as we settle into our booth. Once inside, we're instructed to undress, a rather abrupt directive.
"I'm fine," I assure him, grateful for his consideration.
"Do you want me to look away?" he offers, his cheeks flushing slightly.
I chuckle, feeling a warmth spread through the booth. "It's okay. We're going to see each other naked anyway."
Seungcheol's blush deepens, mirroring my own embarrassment as the atmosphere suddenly feels much warmer than before, despite the air-conditioning being on full blast.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the general game!" Wonwoo's voice fills the room, monotone and detached. I glance up and spot a CCTV camera in the corner, presumably broadcasting Wonwoo's watchful gaze from outside.
Still harboring some resentment from our previous encounter, I shoot a glare at the camera.
"We'll begin the game immediately," Wonwoo continues, "and before we start, all participants must undress. No exceptions. Failure to comply will result in point deductions for the entire team. Remember, you're a team, so one mistake affects everyone. And don't even think about cheating; the CCTV will be monitoring all of you."
