Sam and I walk down the halls toward our class, Biology. "Oh shoot. I forgot we didn't do anything for our project," I noticed as we walk into the door to our seats. She smiles and then frowns.
We sit down and start working on our project. Boring! "Ginni do you want to come over this afternoon before you have to go to the hospital," Sam asks me. I had to didn't I. Aren't you supposed to always hang out with your friends?
"Yea sure. I'd be happy to," I smile and go on with looking through the book. I looked at the clock and see that it's almost time to go. Sam and I pack up.
"Crap," she says. "What," I respond. "They come out from the class across from us," she looks all gloomy and goes to the door.
DING DONG DING DONG
The bell sounds as we are told to leave. Sam and I try to go as fast as we could to bypass seeing the Bradley Bunch, but we are caught by Kate and Jake. My bookbag is grabbed by Kate while Sam's bookbag is grabbed by Jake. They slam us against the lockers.
"Where do you think your going," Jake maliciously said as our backs were starting to hurt. "Leave us alone rapist," Sam yells at him. "She told you what happened. Didn't she?" Jake asks us as we are pinned against the lockers. "Doesn't matter," Sam looks at him with hatred.
"You might as well get punished," Kate looks happy to be able to hit us. Jake starts hitting on Sam starting at her stomach. Over and over again. It just kept coming to her stomach. He ends with a punch in the face. She is spitting blood on the floor. He hits her again in the face. I finally get free as Kate watches her violent friend punch the hell out of Samantha. I use my delicate fist and slap Jake in the face. "That's what you get molester," I yell. I get Sam's hand and run towards the front office.
"Help, Help This guy was beating her up and wouldn't stop," I yell at the people in the office while opening the door. They see Sam with blood on her cheek, so they come around the counter to help her to the nurses bed to lay her down. "What's her name so I can call her mother," the kind red headed lady asks me. "Samantha Wells," I tell her. "Were you attacked to," she asks me. "I was about to be," I tell her before sitting down.
"Mrs.Wells, your daughter has been beat up by-," she looks at me. I mouth the name Jake and she continues, "Jake."
All I could hear is Mrs.Wells saying mmhm. What if she got hurt really bad, it would be my fault. If I had just broken away a few minutes earlier, it wouldn't be so severe. "Ok her mom is coming. Will you go get her closest brother," the lady asks me. "Sure what class is he in," i reply back with a question, "Alec Wells."
"He's in room 308 for math," she tells me. I smile and head out of the office looking for the 300 hall. I find it looking for the room she told me. I look to my left and see a sign: Hardigan room 308. I found it.
I open the door silently so I don't disturb. I go to the front of the room to see a teacher with a beard, Mr.Hardigan. "I need Alec Wells because it's concerning his sister in the office," I inform the teacher. He nods his head and points to Alec. He comes over to the teacher's desk. "Go with her Alec. Take your stuff," the teacher commands Alec.
Alec gets his stuff and we go out into the hallway. "What's wrong Ginni," he immediately asks me. "Jake beat her up," I tear up a little after saying that. "No he did not. That's my little sister and he's going to get it right back to him," the mood falls to anger.
Instead of going to the office, Alec decides to take revenge on Jake and we head to his classroom. "Alec she wouldn't want you to do this," I grab his arm before he could open the door to Jake's class. I let go and he opens the door. "Jake can I borrow you," he asks.
Jake nods and walks out to greet us. "What do you want," Jake asks with a devilish grin. "Why would you hit an innocent girl," Alec yells.
I look away as Alec throws the first punch. It gets more violent every second. "Alec stop," I yell to try to bring him back to calm, sweet Alec. He finally stops and the teacher looks up at Alec with shock. Before she could say anything, we head to the office where we were supposed to be. The walk was quiet.
Alec opens the door and lets me go in first. "Sam are you okay," he asks with concern as he sits next to her in the school nurse's chair. "I-I'm fine," she gets out. Their mom walks into the office.
"I'll be taking all three of them home," she says. I smile knowing she meant me. "Yes ma'm. Just sign here," the lady said. Mrs.Wells signs the piece of paper. "Ginni you will ride with Alec and Sam will ride with me," she orders us before we get to leave.
I follow him to the red Mustang and he unlocks the door. I sit in the comfy seat that's in the front of the car. He starts to rev up the engine so we could start heading towards their house. "You're going to get in trouble," I inform him as we sit there. "That little bastard had no right to hurt someone like Samantha. He doesn't know what she has been through," Alec says in a hateful tone.
I have a shocked expression on my face. What did I not know? "What happened to her," I asked curiously. "She didn't tell you," he looks surprised as well. I shake my head no abruptly.
"6 years back she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Luckily she survived and now all she has to do is take pills," he enlightened me. "She had cancer," I astonishingly say.
"It was a hard time for her. She was only 8 years old. That's why she can't play sports or do anything active like a sport," he educated me. "Wow. Does anyone know," I inquire. "No. Now it's just my family and you who know," Alec, the blonde with blue eyes and who has totally caught my attention, advised me.
I see the sign that marks their neighborhood. Alec parks in the driveway behind his mom. "Are
you going to tell her you hit him," I interrogate him. "She'll know tomorrow if I did or not," he winks at me before we get out of the car.Mrs.Wells takes Sam inside while Alec and I follow behind her. She takes her broken down daughter upstairs to her room. I sit with Alec on their couch to watch tv.
Sam, having cancer, I would've never guessed.
