Homecoming was finally here. The dresses were prepped to perfection. My hair was going to look stunning. Making me flow across the dance floor with my stunning heels. I get to spend it with friends. Ginni and Alec promised to dance with me during fast songs, but they could dance themselves during slow songs. Which I was completely okay with. I can't wait for him to see her. She's going to look amazing. Am I seriously fangirling over my own friend? Ok I've officially gone crazy.
"I'm here," Ginni's voice enlightens my mood and I walk down the stairs to see her in a usual tshirt and black jeans. With her hair hidden with a beanie. "Are you ready to look fantabulous," I scream with excitement. "Sure...," she says nervously. "No need to worry. I'm amazing with people," I squeal. "Just be careful with the curling iron. Don't want a repeat of the eighth grade dance," my mother shouts from the kitchen. "It was one time," I shout back making sure she could hear me. Ginni's eyes go wide. "Just kidding," my mom yells loudly. Ginni has a sigh of relief.
I walk back upstairs making sure my friend was following me. My hair was going to be down, with curls and a braid. I was going to make Ginni's hair in an updo that will be curly with tiny flowers I found at the store in it. "I think you should get your dress on first," I inform her. She nods her head and gets dressed. The white dress with black flowers up the bodest look absolutely gorgeous on her. "Eeek," I screech on how beautiful she is.
"Thanks," she smiles and laugh. "Now sit," I order her and point to the seat. I start curling her hair. Strand by strand, her hair became more and more bouncy. I have to admit her hair was really soft. I clip it up to make it an updo. Lastly, I put the tiny flowers in nooks and crannys of her curls. "All done," I say smiling like crazy, "let me do mine and then I'll do your makeup." She nods he head and sits on my bed. I curl my hair, even though it was hard not to get angry at it. Then I do the braid going to the back. "I'm ready for you," I yell for her. She sits in the same seat.
I start with a white eyeshadow first. Base it up with that, then I did a smokey look with grey and black. I tip it off with black mascara. I do that little swipe thing with eyeliner making it cool. On her cheeks, I put some light pink blush to give her an accent. I didn't put any lip stick on her. On my eyes, I put blue eyeshadow into a smokey look. Blush was pink and lips were cherry red. "We look hot," I say out loud. We both laugh it off.
"Girls it's time to go," my mother yells from downstairs. We perk up. I walk downstairs first, so I can introduce Ginni. "My baby girl looks absolutely gorgeous," I hear my father say. I start to tear up but quickly recover it so I don't mess up my makeup. "Please welcome the beautiful Ginni Smith," I say. Ginni walks downstairs in her dress. "You look beautiful," my brother says to her as she comes into a hug for him. "We need to take pictures," my mother yells excitedly. I smile. First, Ginni and I took a picture together. Next, Ginni and Alec take one. Then, Alec and I take a sister-brother portrait. Lastly, we each take one by ourselves. Charlie and Matt didn't want to go to homecoming so they just stayed home. "I love you sweetheart," my mother and father say last as I walk out the door.
The three of us gathered into the car of my brother. "Who's ready to dance," my brother tries to get us all pepped up and excited. I was just happy to see a smile plastered on the both of their faces. "Why are you smiling so much," my brother asks me. "Oh nothing," I lie.
We arrive at the school for our homecoming dance. The theme was Frosted Twilight so the decorations had some snow and night skies. It was very beautiful. "Let's dance," the song was fast so I suggested let's dance. We get in the middle of the dance floor and start dancing crazily. I see my old friends with their boyfriends. I then go back to having fun.
"Dang it a slow song," I say before heading to the punch bowl. It was cherry flavored and tasted very good. "Hey Sam," a very unusual person comes up to me. "Hey jake," I return. "Would you like to dance," he asks me. I think about the options. Look like a loner or dance with someone you may hate? "Sure I'll dance with you," I smile.
The music played softly and soundly.
I have died every day waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand moreAnd all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand moreOne step closer
One step closerBefore I knew it, the song was over and so was the dance between me and Jake. I actually enjoyed it. He made me feel special and protected. "I'm going to get my drink," I tell him and go back to the punch table where I left my drink. I take a few more sips before feeling a little nauseous.
"A-are you okay," my brothers voice sounded distant and blurred. "What," I say trying to focus in on him. "Jake what did you do to her," my brother, once again, starts fighting with Jake. "I didn't do anything," Jake says but he sounds distorted.
All I could hear was music.
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roarNow I'm floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own heroYou held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it nowEverything felt so weird. I started walking out towards my brother's car. I had the keys in my small purse because he didn't have deep pockets. The red mustang comes into clear view. I walk over to it and start it up. "Stop," my brother yells from the side. I put it in drive and pull it out of the parking lot. I drive down the main road.
Life, what was it really? Why was it so treasured? That's all I could think as I drive down the road. Lights come into view, brighter and brighter in my focal point. Impact had been made.
•GINNI'S POV•
I go outside to see what all the commotion was about. Then I noticed the red mustang crash with a diesel truck. I start crying as soon as I know it's Sam. Was she dead? I didn't know. "Ginni. It's her," Alec cries with me as we call 911 immediately. My friend, his sister was in a car wreck for something. Did she get high? I don't remember her using drugs. "Is she dead," I ask Alec. He shrugs his shoulder. He calls his parents. They started crying over the phone. That made me cry even more.
The ambulances showed up shortly after the call. I run up to them hand in hand with Alec. "Sam," he yells hoping she's still alive. "Son, she's gone," an emergency response team member tells him while he puts Sam into a dead body suit. I cry into Alec's shoulders and brought him into comfort.
"Alec what's the status," Mrs.Wells asked as soon as they pulled up into the scene. "She's gone forever," he says through muffled tears. Everyone of the family starts crying into a huge circle.
"Uh ma'm we found traces of PCP in your daughters blood," the EMS says as they wipe away their tears. "My daughter doesn't do drugs," she quickly responds.
PCP found in a person who doesn't do drugs, now that's a real mystery.
Sam was gone. Forever.
