"Ah, camp. Dotcha love it, Robbie?" I said hiking up the mountain.
"No. I have no idea how you managed to talk me into doing this." Robbie responded.
I'd wanted him to come only because he spends to much time on his stupid computer. I decided that he needed some exercise and talked his mother into sending him to camp with me. His mother already knew me and listened because we had been next door neighbors for pretty much our entire lives.
"Elle, are you ok? You haven't said anything for awhile." He said sounding like he'd been trying for awhile to get my attention. That's when I realized that while in my thoughts we'd gotten separated from the group and it was already dark.
"Huh, oh. I was just in my thoughts. It's dark, do you want to hike along the river and see if we catch up or set up camp and wait for them tomorrow?" I asked.
"I was following you. I haven't seen them for awhile. After I realized that I tried to ask you if you'd knew where they went and-" he stopped even though he'd been getting more exasperated.
"Eh, Robbie, why did you stop?" I asked.
"Did you see the light over there? See there." Robbie said.
I turned and I saw it. A small sparkle up hill, following the river. That's when I realized something I should had already known.
"That's strange. I've been going here for years yet I've never seen that river." I was surprised at how confused my voice was.
"Maybe we went off the trail." Robbie said shaking so hard his glasses almost fell off.
"It's the same as always!" I could't believe how panicked I sounded. At this point I had already started pulling at my jacket, something I only did if I was really scared which was almost never.
"It may be the rest. I'm going towards it." Robbie said as he ran off.
"Goddanmit, Robert!" I yelled as ran after him.
My much longer legs caught up with him quickly. However my long body did not have the ability to stop quickly and we crashed into him and we both fell into the river, that although looking calm was surprisly fast and sweeped us up. We spent what felt like an hour in the river but it was most likely a few minutes when I realized something- ok, Robbie did- that the river was going up hill. It was defying the laws of physics. That when the river started getting warmer. And was that smoke I smell?
