The story revolves around psychiatrist, Harleen Quinzel, as she falls in love with her patient, The Joker, the which shares stories of his dissent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind that he is today.
The story is a prequel to...
Gotham City in the past, we see a normal Joker, he doesn't has green hair, pale skin, crazy tattoos, grills, he's just a regular looking man, caucasian, brown hair, and completely sane. This is before his Joker transformation, let's call him "J".
J is another lonely person, he quit his job at a chemical plant due to the fact that he has a dream of becoming one of the best comedians of all time and make the world laugh. So one day at a stand-up bar, he paints his face like a clown, similar to Joaquin Phoenix. So J, all confident in his clown makeup goes up the stage.
J: "Who's ready for some comedy?!"
Random Man: *in the background* "That's why I'm here you dumb fuck!"
J: "Ok, how are black people and tornadoes the same?... It takes one to ruin a good neighborhood!"

All the people there started to boo at J, although, even if his joke was racist...he wasn't racist at all.
J: *embarrased* "Sheesh well...do you know who was the first black guy to admit he was the father? Darth Vader! HA!HA!HA!"
That was enough, the audience started to boo harder and throw trash at J, they were saying things like he should get off the stage or to go fuck himself. So J does get off and gets kicked out and banned from the stand-up bar.
Bar Owner: "Don't show yourself around here no more!"
As J walks away, he gets spotted by a black man and his gang who were at the bar and were waiting for J to come out.
Black Man: "There's that lil' punk-ass bitch! Get 'im!"
J: "Oh fuck"
The gang then jumps J, beating him up on the ground, kicks and punches all over his body until he couldn't move. When the gang leaves, J just laughs at the beating he had. Later a broused up J walks to his crappy apartment where he meets his neighbor and friend, Wendy, a smoker, outside of the building. Wendy notices J's bruises and bloody face.
Wendy: "Life's a bitch huh?"
J: "It is, Wendy, but if life was a slut it would be easy"
Wendy: *helping J walk* "Come on, let's fix you up"
