~3~Lights out hit and I took a deep breath before relaxing in my bed knowing that we were being watched over carefully. I still kept my eyes on the small girl only a couple beds away from me as she waved before closing her eyes.
I smiled softly seeing her resting peacefully. She understood that I would protect her, which in turn made her feel safe enough to close her eyes.
Still, throughout the night I could not close my eyes. There was a feeling in the pit of my stomach and I couldn't bear to take my eyes off of her. I was afraid that if I looked away, she would disappear.
Halfway through the night, Sister Andrea quietly came over to me.
"Rest child, she is under my watch. You need your strength," she whispered.
"Thank you," I whispered in return before letting out a sigh and softly closing my eyes. I heard her soft steps leave my presence and the door click shut quietly.
I didn't rest heavily. My ears were still open for any sound that dared enter my ears. I used something I hadn't in a very long time and didn't know was still possible as well, the hearing of my wolf to enhance it and hear every little creak in the school. I should've known it was coming.
I didn't hear him until the door opened to the dorm. I kept still as to feign sleeping hut opened my eyes cautiously and looked over to where Sister Andrea was supposed to be watching but she was absent.
In a panic, I looked over to 165 to see a dark figure looming over her with malicious intent. In the moonlight, I could see his evil grin as he swooped down and picked her up gently in his arms, she readjusted but didn't awaken.
I quickly bolted up from my bed and ran over. He was already in the hall.
"Stop it! Please no!" I pleaded loudly. Probably waking up the whole school but I didn't care.
"Shut it, child," he sneered backhanding me with a force that sent me to the ground.
He continued walking but I darted onto my feet and ran after him. I jumped on his back which took him in surprise and in result dropping the small girl.
"Go! Hide!" I told her when she looked up at me with an intensity of fear I had never seen on anyone in my life. She nodded with wide eyes before getting up and running as quickly as her little feet would carry her as I wrapped my arms around the priest's neck. But I was too weak.
He threw me into the ground and before I knew it, I felt his hands batter my body senseless. I screamed and curled into a ball and he started to kick me. Multiple people joined him, the other priests I assume.
"Father William, please stop!" I heard a nun plead. Then came the smack of a hand against her cheek and I cried out again. Now they're abusing the nuns as well.
When they stopped, Father William crouched down to meet my eyes with such evil in his eyes it hurt to look at them.
"You will be tried by the king for your crimes against a man of the moon goddess, then justice will be served," he sneered.
