ONESHOT
JENNIEThe bell rang loudly and echoed through the whole classroom signalling that its already lunchtime. My fellow cheerleader friends stood up excitedly from their respective seats and dragged me along with them towards the exit. I just let them because afterall, its my first day to attend school after I got into accident that totally wrecked me both emotionally and physically for the past few weeks.
As we were walking through the school corridors on the way to cafeteria, I spotted Lisa Manoban with her head down quietly fiddling with her Leica camera.
"Poor Lisa, I heard her college scholarship got cancelled because of her disability." Nayeon, my co-captain muttered from my left. I turned my head towards her and raised my brows in question.
"Disability?" I repeated slowly making sure I heard her right the first time.
"Yes? Haven't you heard of it?" Nayeon replied and without any warning, Irene smacked the back of her head.
"Ouch!! What was that for, Irene?!?!?"
"Stupid! Jennie doesn't know about it since she just went back to school today!" Irene explained as a matter of fact while adjusting her glasses.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry, Jen. But you did not have to do that, Irene! Ugh! I hate you." Nayeon ranted while pouting.
"Okay, guys!! Stop it. So, what happened to Lisa?" I asked with a little too much concern. I hope they did not notice it though. Nobody knows of my relationship with Lisa, wait, I mean my previous relationship with Lisa. Because she's now my ex girlfriend. Yup, I'm bisexual and we were happily together till I met Kai, the captain of the football team.
I was snapped out of my reverie when Irene vaguely spoke in a whisper, "She's blind now, Jennie. The head photographer of our campus's photography club is now blind. And so her dream photography school had no other choice but to take away her scholarship."
I froze right in that instant. What? That.. but that can't be.. how did that even happen?
I wanted to ask more questions but I couldn't. I dont want to raise any suspicion about my real connection with Lisa. Everybody at school knows Lisa and Jennie are just schoolmates, not even friends at that. I feel so sad about what happened to her because I know how much Lisa loves photography. And to see her life's dream taken from her, I just couldn't bear to see her like that.
--------------
After classes ended in the afternoon, I am now in front of the school gates waiting for Lisa. Yes, I decided to just ask her myself about what really happened. I have no idea how she's gonna react after I've just hurt her by leaving her for Kai. But I cant help but be worried about her even if I shouldn't.It wasn't too long till I found her walking slowly towards the gates with a cane on her right hand.
So, its really true afterall.
Lisa was only a few meters away from me when she suddenly tripped and her face contort in panic as she flailed her hands trying to hold onto something. I immediately closed the distance between us and caught her just in time before the both of us fell with her on top of me.
Lisa stared at me yet I know she's not really staring at me because it was a blank stare. Her hands went up to touch my face and stopped at my lips.
"Lisa.. I-- " I whispered. Our faces were so close that I even sensed her breathing hitched when she recognize my voice.
She immediately removed her hand off my face and tried to get off me. I quickly held her in place to make sure she doesn't hurt herself and pulled her to sit upright. Lisa mumbled a short thanks before she extended her hand in search of her cane. I found her cane not far from us and grabbed it then placed it between her hands.
