The Best Part of Me
The best parts of me are my ears.
I use them to listen to my friends
And help them when they need my advice,
For I may be helpful with their troubles.
I use my ears to interpret the meanings
Behind the words that are said.
I think about what is said to me
Long after it has been said.
I use my ears to notice things
That are completely different to what may be going on.
The howling of the wind for instance or
The sound of quiet footfalls in a hallway.
I use my ears to listen to things people say
Without the use of words.
But sounds may speak for themselves
Like a song without lyrics.
I use my ears to learn.
A gunshot, for instance, doesn’t always mean hatred.
It may mean the happiness of shooting game
Or the sadness of losing something.
