Chapter 8

Stephanie’s POV

We were all in the middle of the fair and the boys were fighting like 5 year olds about where we would go first.  Beau and Spicy wanted to go to the bouncy slides, Max and Durston wanted to go to the animal house, and Matty and Daniel wanted to go on the rollercoasters.  Carla and I stood their exchanging exasperated glances at each other.   “BOYS!” Carla yelled.  Seriously I didn’t know where this loud Carla came from, she used to be this quiet girl and now she was yelling at boys to stop arguing. 

“I have an idea,” I started,  “why don’t we all split up?  Max, Durston, and I will go to the animal house.  Carla, Beau, and Spicy can go on the bouncy slides.  And Daniel and Matty can go on the rollercoasters”. 

“You’re a genius!!!” Spicy yelled.

“Thanks” I replied laughing. 

“Alright so the fair closes at 5 so we’ll all meet here then?” Max asked.

“Yup!” Everyone replied and then we all split up.

“Why do you want to go to the animal house I thought you loved rollercoasters?” I asked Max.

“I want to see if they have any monkeys of course!!!” Max exclaimed.

“Ahh of course I should have guessed” I replied.

“If your gonna be friends with us you should know that monkeys always come first to Max” Durston laughed.

“Aha alright I’ll keep that in mind” I laughed.  The three of us walked into the animal house and started to look around.  All of a sudden Max took off running. 

“Where is he going?!” I asked Durston.

“Take one guess……” Durston replied.

“Oh I forgot…of course, the monkeys,” I laughed.   Durston and I walked over to Max talking and laughing at how Max was staring intently at the monkeys.  I could tell already that Durston was going to become on of my best friends on the tour. 

“GUYS!” Max started yelling, “LOOK HOW CUTE IT IS!!! How cool would it be if we brought one of these on tour!!! He could come out carrying my ukulele for me!!”

“Good luck with that Max, I’ll think about that for your next birthday present” Durston laughed.

“And I’ll get you the monkey trainer so the monkey can walk onto the stage with your ukulele” I added in. 

“Aww you guys are the best!” Max said and gave us both hugs. 

“So where to next?” I ask.

“How about the rides?” Durston suggests.  My smiling face suddenly shifts to a nervous one.  I quickly hide it and put a fake smile back on my face. 

‘Yeah perfect! Is that okay with you Steph?” Max says.

“Yeah its great…”I say trying to hide my nervousness.   We all start to walk and Durston runs ahead when he see’s Daniel and Matty waiting on a line to a rollercoaster.  I continue to walk with Max silently. 

“You okay?” Max asks me.  “Yup I’m good” I reply trying to avoid Max’s eye contact.

“Hey.” he stops and turns me toward him, “what’s wrong?”

“Nothing” I say still trying to avoid his eye contact.    

Max lifts my chin up with his fingers and looks into my eyes.  “Don’t lie to me,” he says.
