Ch. 4 - Eundal

4장 - 은달

"yes, i missed you."

i looked at daniel. what did he just say? he... he... missed me? i looked up at his eyes, he made his way over and hugged me. tight. "so get well quickly."

he was much taller than me, so my head only reached up to his chest. i felt him rub my back as my eyes widened. i heard the faint thumping of his heart as i leaned closer to him. he let go of me and i touched my cheeks in shock.

blushed.

"so," daniel said all cutely excited. "all you have to do is to stop annoying others."

"especially me," seongwu added, looking at me all serious. mind my wondered to last week and a laugh snuck out.

"anyways, okay?" the dog-like dude asked, wagging his non-existent tail.

"'others'," i said, shifting my seat so it's more comfortable. "as in i can still annoy you?"

i expected a laugh.

or a "no".

or a "you don't annoy me".

instead he reach over and check my temperature with his hand saying, "you can do whatever you want with me."

i was speechless and seongwu was gagging but daniel, he... he seemed fine. normal. no reaction expect worry as he said, "you're really hot."

"h-hot?" i choked, unable to process what he just said. isn't hot used to describe a popular or pretty thing?

"yeah," he smiled gentily. "your head is burning up." or i guess hot as in temperature hot is also hot.

"i'm achoo! fine," i said, turning when i sneezed. something told me they didn't believe me.

"you're not," seongwu picked my up and brought me to my room. he place me on my bed and tucked me under my blanket. he kneeled and leaned on the bed so if i turned, our faces will only be a centimeter or two apart. "sleep."

"i can't," i said, my eyes wide open. "sing."

daniel chuckled as he joined seongwu besides my bed, "yeah, ong, sing."

"저 해가 떠나도 even if the sun leaves

i fell asleep after the second verse, listening to seongwu's voice. i thought about what daniel asked me to do. no way i can stop. no way. i can't stop after all i did. nope. 

to be what i was before is an impossible thing.

the next day i went back to school with an oversized dog trailing me. he kept nagging me about how i should listen to him.

"-come on, eundal!" he said, when i kept ignoring him.

"ow! i mean, yeah," seongwu said when daniel elbowed him."just stop being annoying."

"no," i said, firmly going into the girl's washroom.

"we'll keep nagging you about it!" daniel called, making me smile. and he told me not to annoying others.

"hypocrite!" i shouted back.

nag me he said, nag me he did.

"geum haetbit!" i called, thinking she'd be perfect for a new target. she was holding a pocket knife and made a small cut by accident on her finger. she put the knife away and ignored the cut. 

"eundal," she smiled. the nicest girl in school. age 17, freshmen. "what do you need."

i opened my mouth to speak when a crumpled piece of paper hit my side.

'don't annoy others. i'm watching.'

i looked around to see daniel. he was glaring, but it changed into a smile quickly as he got embarrassed at himself. 

i looked at haetbit waiting to for me to say something. i looked at daniel waiting for him to leave. i rubbed a scar on my wrist nervously. what am i supposed to do?

"why is he doing that?" haetbit asked, looking at daniel. 

"doing what?" i asked, seeing her wrist with a strange tattoo. 

"you know," she looked at me, her golden eyes peircing mine. "stopping you from annoying people."

"how," i asked slowly. "did you know that?"

she looked nervous. she figeted with her hair and looked away, "i don't know."

but i knew she knew why. 

i just didn't know why.

i was about to ask her went she blacked out, and three boys nearby came to her aid. 

"idiot," one said spitting on me. "what did ya do?"

"nothing," daniel said, shoving me behind him. "i saw them, she did nothing. in fact, you are the only one who acted rudely. apologize."

"s-s-sorry," the dude obeyed, obviously scared of daniel's body and popularity.

"not to me," daniel said, pulling me into a hug. "to her."

"s-sorry eundal," he stuttered, looking down. i wasn't able to answer because jinyoung came to help haetbit. and glared.

i glared back, knowing why.

why he hated me.

why he didn't like talking to me.

i don't like him either.

but i still decided to follow him and haetbit to the nurse.

"why'd you come?" he asked, looking at me who was sitting on a chair.

"to talk to you," i replied, realising too late i forgot to talk in my "annoying voice."

the "annoying voice" was when i talked an octave higher. i didn't use it after i blacked out or when i was sick, but jinyoung never heard my real voice.

"what's wrong with your voice?" he asked squinting at me.

i sighed. no use pretending. "nothing, did you honestly thought my voice was as high as a dolphin's?"

"sarcasm?" he asked. "who are you and thank you for replacing moon eundal."

"i am eundal, jinyoung," i rolled my eyes. "think. not all people are what they seem."

he seemed to be in a deep thought.

"that's true," he said, his big brown eyes meeting mine.
