Kirishima's P.O.V
If I could change one thing from the past, it would be the one day that I got into the car with my mom.
--------------12 YEARS AGO---------------
"Hey Kiri! Do you wanna go to the park later today? Just me and you?" My mom said from her spot in the kitchen, making grilled cheese for lunch. "Sure momma! That sounds fun!" I said, the excitement clear in my voice as I walked to the table from my own spot on the couch while I watched a random cartoon, sitting in the booster seat on one of the dining room chairs specially there for me to reach. Setting the plate down in front of me, my mom grabs her own plate before sitting down and going into one of the random conversation topics about the park or daycare.
Grabbing both of our empty plates, she takes them to the sink before telling me to get ready. Grabbing my pair of small crocs by the door, I slip them on before running back over to my mom reaching my arms towards her, begging her to pick me up. Letting out a small chuckle, she grabs me and bounces me up to her waist, grabbing the keys from the hook by the door and leaving the house. Buckling me up in the car seat in the middle of the car, I look out the big wind shield. I always liked looking at the road as we drove.
Turning out of our driveway, we go through the maze of road signs before we can almost see the park. Stopping at a stop sign, my mom began to go, not seeing the little kid that ran in front of the car. Swerving at the last second, she avoids the kid, but not the large metal pole in front of us. Everything seemed to go in slow motion through the front wind shield. First the shattering glass, the scream from kids and parents alike at the park. The small amount of smoke, my mom laying in the front seat of the car, while blood gushed from my neck.
Hearing the sirens from ahead, I was afraid. I don't remember much from after that, but I do remember my dad coming in the hospital room that night and explaining that momma wouldn't be there anymore. I didn't know what he meant at first. After a while I realized and the truth settled in. My dad and I became quite distant after the whole incident. He still took care of me and made sure I was making the grades I should have but there wasn't a lot of speaking or leaving the house. I couldn't blame him. After I went mute that day, I didn't want to go anywhere either. Esspecially in a car.
Bakugou's P.O.V
I wish I could change the past. I don't know what I would change though. There really isn't any way to reverse my hearing.
---------------16 YEARS AGO----------------
I was born pre-mature and had a very low birth weight. While for most kids, it means you have to go to the NICU, including me. Once my weight was back to normal and I was deemed healthy enough, I was able to go home after three months in the hospital. While I was a pretty happy baby, my parents noticed something was off pretty soon after returning home. At first, they thought it was because of my time in the quiet hospital that I didn't react to sounds. Bringing me back in for a checkup, it was confirmed that I was deaf.
My father was pretty chill about the whole thing, already knowing sign language from a class he took in high school, but my mom on the other hand was freaking out. After managing to calm her down, they talked about different options, eventually settling on hearing aids. And let me tell you, the hearing aids sucked. It felt like you constantly had earbuds in your ears and sometimes they get so annoying that you just want to rip them out.
I knew they were supposed to help me; I literally can't hear without them, but they made me feel weak. They also looked super stupid, making the teasing in middle school and the explosive personality from my mom not mix well. Most kids didn't make fun of me anymore after last year middle school because I threatened to beat them to a pulp...and I did.
I just hope this year, high school is different.
A/N So...I deleted the other Tododeku story "Burning Love" because I didn't know where I was going to have it go and I can't come up with a satisfying ending for it. I'm sorry if you really wanted to continue that book but hopefully this story makes up for it! This was just so I was able to get the backstories down. Thank you for reading the first chapter! See you on the next page!
