HiddenSecrets and Freedom
Zafiah
Running through the dark halls of the coliseum prison was both exhilarating and frightening. The moans of the prisoners sounded helpless and hopeless, I chanced a look into the barred cages and I couldn't stop my gasp when I saw the condition of those poor souls.
Chained with collars around their necks, some of these men were almost malnourished and their skin practically silhouetting their bones. There were different species besides humans who were locked up, Xavier did say that they had conquered many planets before coming to Earth.
The cells themselves were absolutely disgusting, grime covered the walls and the floor was slick with blood and bile. Rodents scurried across the floor in search of food, occasionally nipping at the half-dead prisoners. That explained the welts and blisters all over their bodies, these little bugs were eating away at them.
We hurried along in search of the control room, the cell's doors were automated so we had to disable them with a computer. Ugh the smell of this place was getting to me, it reminded me of a morgue. I looked around once more before a sound caught my ears, footsteps. Amai was speeding ahead of us so I quickly grabbed a hold of her before we ran into trouble.
We hid in the shadows, Xavier was on look out with Seth checking the perimeter. I shushed them as a guard passed by us, the sound of keys tinkling as he walked away. I gave Xavier a little nod and bolted after the guard with my dagger at the ready, I jumped him and quickly ran the blade across his throat and slicing his jugular in one fluid motion.
The body fell to the ground and I quickly patted it down in the hopes of finding keys and thankfully I did find them. I hid them in my pocket as we split up to go look for the control room, if we saw any guards we killed them immediately and hid the bodies straight after. There were security cameras everywhere which made it all the more harder, but hey who didn't like a challenge?
I found the control room first, I peaked inside and found two guards and they were sleeping to top it all off. I see watching over a few people wasn't that great of a job. Again with absolute precision, I proceeded to kill them off and shove the bodies in a nearby utility closet. I pulled out a hand radio and swiftly called for back-up.
"Guys the control room is on the second floor. Get here quickly because I do not know how the fuck your technology works."
I heard Seth answer that he was the closest and that he would be there in ten minutes. I checked for more guards on the monitors but something piqued my interest. There was a room, it looked like a medical lab but from what I could see there was blood all over the examination table. Were they doing experiments?
"Xavier there's something odd going on the first floor. Seth will be here in ten minutes so I'm just going to go check it out real quick."
"Okay but be careful."
"I will."
I left the control room and fled to the first floor, searching for the mysterious medical room. The moans of the damned reached my ears with full force as I checked each room. I could only hear cries for help and pleas for someone to end their lives. I was walking past one of the cells when a hand slammed against the bars and startled me out of my thoughts.
It was a very large blue man, built beyond compare and covered in tattoos. His gold gaze seared me with unadulterated hate and his lips pulled back into a sneer. I am so thankful those bars are too thick for him to wedge his hands through.
"What are you doing here?"
His voice was gruff and gravely, it matched his obviously wonderful personality.
