Crash! Bang! The sounds of doom crept up to my room and I trembled in fear. I heard my door slowly being pushed open and I immediately crept under my bed.
"Mely? Where are you? I'm scared." I heard the familiar voice say. I rolled out from under the bed and hugged my minute younger little sister. "Come on Mari, let's play a game," I said, trying to be optimistic. "We're gonna hide under my bed and be extra quiet, ok?" She nodded and we slipped into the hiding spot.
"Melody? Marinette? Where are you," I heard Mama say as she eased the door open. "Here!" I answered, poking my head out. "Marinette, we need to pack. Now." She said seriously.
We went Mari's room and packed her things into a luggage. Mama picked her up and waved a locket in Mari's face. She then closed it and locked it onto a necklace using a purple key attached another necklace. Mari closed her eyes and fell asleep. Mama fastened the locket necklace around Mari's neck and the key necklace around mine and whispered, "Promise me you will never take this off, my dear." I nodded, confused. She carried Mari outside to the jet and whispered instructions to the air stewardess in a low voice. Then she closed the door and stood back, tears shining in her brown eyes. "This is for your safety and for the good of the kingdom. At least we will have one princess in both places. Be safe with your Uncle and Aunt. Goodbye my darling. I hope I'll see you soon."
I stood there, struck dumb as the plane took off. When my brain registered that Mari was leaving, I broke down in tears.
"Mari. Mari! MARI!" I shouted into the wind. "Come back! COME BACK!" I cried and hugged Mama. I cried until there were no more tears left. When I looked up again, the plane was nothing more than a speck of dust in the sunset. "NOOOOOOO!" I wailed, heartbroken.
My little sister was gone, and there was nothing I could do about it. I fingered my key and whispered, "A key always finds its lock."
