Lily left to get me a towel and a new set of clothes while I took a shower to remove the filth and stink on my body. Thinking about what happened a while ago I believed Lily's words made sense. They should pay.
Our university is reputed to dish out outstanding graduates in every field out there, most of the prominent people in various industries graduated from our school. Thanks to that, a lot of spoiled brat rich kids enroll at the university and use their background to gain favors from everyone.
It doesn't really matter to the school if you're a rich kid with rich parents because the school doesn't really care about that and they focus more on giving the students independence, stepping up only when necessary and to strictly enforce fairness but even if the staff don't judge a person's background, the student body is a different matter altogether.
Rich kids stick with rich kids and all the other "regular" and "average" students are just people to be stepped on because it's "only natural" since they were people that were beneath them in terms of status. If your status doesn't match up with theirs then you're an outsider; despite the fairness of the school's treatment of the students, the amount of rich spoiled brats that have successfully enrolled in the university outnumbers that of the scholars and "regular" students from average families because the fees for enrolling in the university is equivalent to the quality of education given; to put it briefly, it's totally expensive.
These "regular" students, wishing for connections and a trouble-free school life, would then involve themselves with the rich kids gaining some benefits or distance themselves from the glamour and enjoying their own average circle of friends while the status-obsessed idiots would gain followers, a more inflated ego and a group of people to compare their status to.
The three arrogant ladies this morning were part of what I called the status-obsessed socialite bimbo club. The daughters of two of the school board members and the niece of the school chairman; three people who enjoyed lording over the school.
They may have enjoyed the feeling of being the top of the school but the true blue nepotistic ruler of the student body is Lily and that's why a lot of people want to get close to her. She's one of the two students that teachers and staff treat with respect. She was the top student who excelled in almost everything they threw at her and she was famous enough to affect the reputation of the school even without the added influence of her entire family.
That aura and reputation caused the entire student body to compete amongst themselves as to who among them can claim the right to stay by her side and share the limelight and prestige that came with being with Lily. I guess I knew this would happen since I've been getting quite close to Lily this past week. I have to say though, this is such a clichéd development.
Finished with my bath, I poked my head out of the shower and looked around for my towel and change of clothes. Seeing my towel and clothes on the towel rack, I took them, dried myself and changed hurriedly. After I changed, I headed out of the restrooms and found Lily on the phone.
Feeling a presence behind her, she turned around and signaled to me that she's almost done. I nodded and stood there awkwardly, waiting for her to finish the call and wondering what time it was. It's possible that the morning assembly has already finished and the lectures are already starting; why is Lily still here?
⸢... Okay, bye. ⸣
Looking in her direction, I saw Lily hang up the phone and walking towards me. Since I'm not wearing my glasses, I couldn't see her face clearly but I could somehow tell that she's happy for some reason. Narrowing my eyes at her, she tilted her head and suddenly lifted her hand and ruffled my hair.
