The next day was a Wednesday, a work day. I was extremely tired from staying up late last night. And to make things sound worse. It was raining, and the sky was all gray. I sluggishly got up from bed and got myself ready for work. I glanced at the calendar hanging from the wall. It was crooked. I walked over to it and fixed it. It was November 20, 2019. Winter was just around the corner.
I looked at my watch (for the first today.) It was exactly 5:30! I was officially late for work! The time I would get there it would be 6:00."No,no,no,no,no!" I exclaimed. I flung myself down the stairs. I didn't bother to eat, time was ticking!
I grabbed my leather black bag that was sitting on the table. A sticky note flew down on the floor. I scooped down to pick it up. It was a note from mom. She wrote, PLEASE CHECK THE MAIL. Mom must have thought I was up and ready long before I had to leave. I groaned. If I didn't bother to get the groceries Mom would be suspicious. She would probably ask questions too. But,then again, mom knew how late I stayed up. I glanced back down at my watch again. It was 5:33. I wouldn't be too late. I thought. I searched for my car keys. My eyes went wide. Where were they!? I checked my pockets. Luckily they were there. I rushed out the door and into the bugatti.
It was a good thing that the post-office wasn't too far. I parked the car and speedily ran inside. I bent my head down struggling to get the the key out of my pocket. BOOM!
My head spun in circles. I looked down to see who I by accidentally struck down. And to my horror, it was Dan's girlfriend.
Dan's girlfriend's name was Amelia. She was secretly in love with me. I happened to find out that secret in high school. I never exposed Amelia. Not for her sake though, for Dan's. I didn't want to break his heart. She would always try to make me like her. Her plans never worked. She also always wanted to catch me alone. What a weirdo. And to my disgust we were alone. Well...not exactly. The mail girl was there.
"Uh,sorry Amelia." I said helping her up from the floor.
"That's okay Willy." She held on tight to my hands. She must have thought that this was a magical moment. I for sure didn't.
"Amelia, let go."I said.Once she got up I tried to pull my hand back without hurting her. If I did, who knows what she would say to Dan. She squeezed my hands."Willy, why don't you like me?"
I screamed in my head. Someone save me from this crazy woman! I looked at the mail girl in despair, hoping she would scold us and tell us to go outside. But the only thing she did was leave the counter and go inside a room smiling. The girl must have felt awkward. Amelia turned her head the way I was looking. She saw too that the mail girl was not there. She slyly grinned. "So...?"
"Huh? Oh, because I told you this thousands of times. I don't like you. Plus, I already have a girlfriend!" I knew she wouldn't listen to me, no matter how many times I said this to her.
"Hmph! I know you you don't like me! And I know you have Abigail! But that dosn't explain why you don't like me!"
I didn't know what to say. No, I did know what to say. I didn't like her because she wasn't the one I loved.
Just then, as things seemed to grow worse, the mail girl came back. She walked toward us with her hands behind her back."Excuse me."Quickly Amelia let my hands go. We both looked at the shy girl. Now that the girl was closer, she looked a lot younger from here compared to when she was standing at the counter. She must have been around the age of sixteen.
"Can I help you two?" The young girl asked.
As soon as I was just about to answer, Amelia piped up."No little girl. We're fine. We were just figuring some things out."
"Miss. i'm not a little girl. I'm seventeen." She folded her arms.
"Oh, i'm truly sorry. Say, what is your name?" Amelia asked.
The girl, I mean woman, showed her name tag that was attached to her shirt."My name is Harper."
I gave Amelia a disapproving look. You don't just randomly ask people's names.(unless you you know the person of course.) Especially if they have a name tag! Amelia leaned closer. Amelia must need glasses. I thought. Harper's name is in bold.
"Ah,what a...um...wonderful name!"
She was bluffing. Amelia must have thought Harper's name was ugly or out of her league. I like her name. It was...nice. I also liked her British accent.
"Why thank you miss." She said with a pleasant smile. When she was just about to leave, she said."Oh, I almost forgot. Please go outside if you're just talking."
Amelia said impatiently. "Yes, we will. Thank you."
Amelia watched Harper walk back to the desk with scornful eyes. I should run before Amelia turns her attention back to me. I thought. I quickly tried to tip toe out of there. Amelia saw me try to run away from her and quickly grasped my arm."Willy, are you running away from me!? We still need to talk!" I pulled back my arm. "What now!" I exclaimed. I tried to think of an excuse to get out from there. I glanced at my watch. It was 6:13! I hadn't realized that I was extremely late for work! All the drama made me forget.
Amelia interrupted my thoughts."I'll tell you what! If I get you proof that Abigail is no good, then will you want to be with me?" Without putting some time to think, I said yes.
"Good! We can finally agree on something!" She said sarcastically.
Just then, Harper cam over and hissed." I thought I told you to go outside!"
This time I was the first to speak."Yes, we were just leaving."
Harper grunted."I would hope so." She turned around and went back to the counter.
Without another word we left. I hopped into the car without saying goodbye to Amelia who was standing at the curb. Before I drove off she shouted."See ya later Willy!"I sighed. I was hoping I would never see her again! But, I knew I would.
