one; the escape

(a/n: i'm going to refer mabel as "twelve" in this flashback as a baby)

twelve looked curiously at the older girl in front of her. and the toddler next to her. she was only three years old and didn't have a clue what was going on. "she is so adorable, papa!" the older girl smiled. "i'm so happy to have another friend, since you gave me one just a month ago!"

subject eight was eight years old then still oblivious that she was taken as a infant from her mother. her real name was kali, dr. brenner didn't bother to know her last name.

subject eleven was sitting on a play mat, playing with a doll. she looked at twelve with a bright smile and held up a doll."play...with me?" she asked the girl. twelve nodded and took the doll. "papa" stood above them, smiling knowing that twelve and eleven would soon be old enough for experiments in a few months when they turned four.

he left the room, leaving the girls to play.

~end of flashback~

i was smacked in the face with a pillow by kali. "hellllllooooo? earth to mabel!" she called. my flashback ended. "hmm?" i looked at her. "papa needs you to do something with a cat, he says jane won't do it" kali told me right before i heard someone yell "no papa!"

i got up from my beanbag chair and ran into the hallway. i saw as jane was being dragged down the hall by papa's workers. papa was standing there looking extremely angry at her. "jane! papa, what's going on!?" i yelled at him.

"eleven is being a bad girl!" he barked back. i raced after jane when i felt someone grab me by my waist and drag me from her. "no! jane!" i yelled. i watched as the men put her into the "punishment room" where you go if you don't obey papa.

i let out a battle cry as i used my super strength to pry the man's arms off me. he smashed into the wall with as such force i've ever seen. i ran to jane's room just as the men were about to close the door.

the door flew open and the men slammed into the wall, making holes and cracks. they got up and tried to close the door, but jane snapped their necks.

papa came over and pushed past me. jane's nose was bleeding and papa looked at his men; dead on the floor.

"incredible" he whispered. "WHAT DID YOU TRY TO DO TO HER!?" i screamed at him. jane ran over and hugged me. "oh no, twelve, i just tried to see if she was getting stronger...i wanted her to kill an animal" he told me calmly.

"papa, she doesn't want to hurt a fly, why would she kill a animal?" i held on to jane tighter. "i know, twelve, that's why you're going to do it" he grabbed onto jane and slammed her in the punishment room.

he grabbed me by the arm and injected a syringe into my shoulder. i groaned from the pain. i felt light headed and it felt like my brain shut down.

i felt myself being led to the experiment room, where jane and i used our telekinetic powers. and sometimes i even used my super strength to crack concrete with two fingers.

the powers that i couldn't control the
best where my telepathy and invisibility. they would never work sometimes. my telepathy could kill people and papa wanted me to work on that the most.

i had mind reading powers and everything. the powers i was best at were my telekinesis and super strength.

i then realized how papa was controlling me. with his hypnosis acid. i couldn't use my powers at all.

i sat myself on a seat and he looked at me. "can you hear me, twelve?" my heart tried to use my powers to get out of hypnosis but my brain wouldn't cooperate. "yes, papa" i responded.

"there is a cat in front of you, i want you to use your powers to hurt it" he said softly and injected another syringe into my shoulder.

i groaned again and my brain immediately cleared up. but i was still under hypnosis and i immediately killed the cat, giving it a stroke.

i felt extremely ill and passed out onto the table, everything blackened around me.

~the next morning~

i woke up in my bed below kali's. i was confused on how i got here. then i remembered what i did last night.

i actually killed a living thing.

i am a monster.

i have to get out of here. i have to leave before they make me kill someone, like a baby.

i got up, my legs trembling, tears filling my eyes. i looked for a bag anywhere, everywhere.

i looked over at jane sleeping on her bed and kali sleeping on her top bunk above mine.

they have to come with me.

i grabbed a plastic bag. i opened the small closet; that we don't need since we are always wearing a hospital gown; and pulled out jeans and t-shirts that dr. parks gave us.

she wanted to help us get out. but if papa found out, he would kill her. i stuffed the clothes into the bag and walked over to jane's bed.

i realized how hard it would be for all of us to escape together. it needs to be one at a time.

i knelt down and tilted my head. a tear slipped down my cheek. i decided to write a letter to jane and kali.

i sat down at the desk papa gave to us and began writing.

dear kali and jane,
i'm sorry that i have to say goodbye. it's not for the last time though. i promise i'll come back for you. i'll call someone, anyone to come and help you. we will be together again. maybe kali will be old enough to rent an apartment and we will be happy. i'm sorry that i left you, i had to get out before papa made me kill someone, like a baby. he's evil and just to see how powerful i am, he would probably do it. you guys mean the world to me and i would never leave you in this filthy place and be selfish. when i figure out who to tell you're trapped in here, they will get you out. if i don't, i will come back for you eventually. i'm sick of papa using us for experiments and not being satisfied that he has three wonderful daughters that he can spend time with. so i'm leaving, and i'm so sorry. hopefully dr. parks treats you right when i'm gone, hopefully we can get papa to go to a punishment room. when you wake up and read this, i'm letting you know i love and care for you both. we are sisters.

always and forever, m&m

i placed the note in between the door, so when they opened it, it would fall. i created an illusion just like kali does and made a fire.

i snuck out the door and pulled down the fire alarm, most likely waking up kali and jane. everyone started rushing to the fire.

i tried my best to make myself invisible and it worked because i ran past many people and papa and they didn't notice.

maybe papa got a glimpse of me, because as i ran past he stared but there was nothing behind me except for a wall.

but he kept walking towards the "fire".

i made it to the exit and it was sunny. i had no shoes since we never wore shoes for experiments.

i walked through the woods, not knowing where they were leading to, but hopefully somewhere faraway from this place.
