CHAPTER III
frustration and companionship.NOVEMBER 4th 2019, MONDAY
It's been almost two months since my encounter with the wolf. Well, my second encounter that was followed by many others. After I sat with the canine for what seemed like an hour, he retreated back into the thick woods without looking back. I too, returned home soon after, the wind howling as I approached my doorstep.
. . .
The short entry in the journal was followed by a rough sketch of the wolf hiding behind a bush. You then wrote a biography from what data you had collected. Even though wolves were a favourite of yours, you didn't exactly specialise in them, therefore the info you wrote could have been terribly interpreted. (filler info)
. . .
After much research, I still cannot clarify or identify what type of wolf it is. As the size of the wolf resembles a Russian or Scandinavian wolf. But, colouration is of a Eurasian or Mongolian wolf, it also hold many features of a Eurasian wolf. If I were to compare him to a European wolf, The European wolf's head is narrower, and tapers gradually to form the nose, which is produced on the same plane with the forehead. Its ears are higher and somewhat nearer to each other; their length exceeds the distance between the auditory opening and the eye. Its loins are more slender, its legs longer, feet narrower, and its tail is more thinly clothed with fur. The shorter ears, broader forehead, and thicker muzzle of the American Wolf, with the bushiness of the hair behind the cheek, give it a physiognomy more like the social visage of an Esquimaux dog than the sneaking aspect of a European Wolf.
. . .
You let out a deep sigh as you twirled your pencil around your middle finger, deep in thought. Head splitting at the complex words you learned through revisions and research. The wolf intrigued you, much larger and threatening than an average wolf yet surprisingly docile. It was always fun trying to figure out these things for you. Like a little puzzle for you to figure out. But this was like trying to solve a puzzle that had no corners and was a solid block of colour. You sighed once more and closed the book in your lap.
After seeing the wolf for the first time near the berry bushes, you did more research as to why it was so different then any other specimen. Your head started to ache at the many thoughts that ran through your head. Mind overflowing with queries, questions & theories. Placing the book in it's usual place on your desk and headed downstairs to make dinner for yourself.
You looked through the cabinets to find somethings somewhat edible until you stumbled upon a box of instant mac-and-cheese sitting in one of the top shelves. I might need to head towards the town soon. You thought as you boiled a pot of water for the pasta. Your cabinets were basically empty at this point, dust and cobwebs gathering. Your only nutrition from berries and tap water. You continued cooking as you planned out a trip to the town.
You sat by the small fireplace in the living room with your bowl of mac-and-cheese and a cup of hot herbal tea. You decided to leave the day after tomorrow as the snow would be light and it took almost four hours to even reach the small cottage you resided in. Why did you hide so far away from society?
Well, this wasn't exactly your little cottage, it was your grandmothers before she passed away a couple months prior. When she passed, she had written that if anything bad were to happen to her you would receive ownership over the small home. Your grandmother loved quiet spaces where she could live out her remaining days watching the snow fall. You would visit her lots when you were a young child, you would go play with the snow while she made you hot cocoa when you would come running back inside from the cold. It brought a smile to your face, this house brought great memories and you knew your grandmother passed peacefully and in her own time.
