Minutes after Jake leaves, a silver Volvo comes racing into the makeshift gravel parking lot and Adelaide sighs. She should've known Edward would find out about Jacob coming to talk to her. His stature is stiff and his face unreadable and Adie prepares herself for a fight but inwardly sighs, it seems the two can never get along. Adelaide jumps off her swing and meets him halfway by the faded blue slide, crossing her arms and waiting for him to be the first to speak.
"Alice lost sight of you for a second." she can already hear the disappointment in his voice and she grits her teeth in annoyance.
"Well, I'm right here."
Edward sighs and grabs her arm, untying it from her other and lacing his fingers with her.
"Adelaide, I told you to stay away from him-"
"And I told you that wasn't gonna happen," she bites out before closing her eyes as she sighs. "Eddie, please sit down." The use of his nickname is probably what actually gets him to listen to her as he sits on the slide. "I understand that when you left me I was... fragile. I was a normal human in every aspect, but I'm not. We both know that. While you were away I was training, getting stronger, faster, learning how to be a hunter. You wanna know who helped me? The pack. They are my family, Edward, and I can't just leave them. And I need you to realize I can take care of myself! I don't need constant protection like I used to, I'm just as strong and fast as you and your family, maybe more-"
Edward sags and lets out a ragged breath. "Adelaide, you aren't understanding me."
"Yes, I am! I probably understand more than you because I actually experienced almost losing you! But, Edward, you need to trust in me."
"It's not you I don't trust."
"They'd never hurt me," she vows and he scoffs.
"What do you call what they're doing now."
"Sam's just hurt and betrayed, he needs time."
"Adelaide, when Alice lost you I-I didn't even know what to feel," admits Edward as he looks up at his girlfriend. "Knowing you risk your life to be with th-those mutts-"
"Edward," she cuts him off with a glare. "Don't call them that. I make them not call you leeches around me so please don't call them mutts."
"Can't you see that they could kill you?!"
"So could you! Jasper almost did!" she knows that's a low blow and she never will blame Jasper for last year, but it's true. Her spending time with the Cullens is just as dangerous as hanging with wolves. Edward sags into himself and sighs when he hears her thoughts. "I don't want to fight, babe," Adelaide says softly as she kneels in front of him. "But we can never fully be happy until you accept that they are my family and I won't abandon them. Not for anyone."
"You really are something else, Adelaide Mason."
Adie grins brightly up at him. "That's why you love me!"
Edward captures her lips softly before pulling away. "Of course, love."
Edward leans in for another kiss and brushes a stray hair behind her hair. Adelaide melts into the kiss, sitting higher up on her knees as her arms wrap around his neck, fingers gripping the hair at the nape of his neck. As the kiss gets heated Edward pulls his mate into his lap, grip tightening on her waist; Adelaide moans as he nips her lip and he knows they need to stop before it gets too heated. Adie feels him pull away and clutches him tighter to her body, breaths heaving as he breaks away from her lips and peepers kisses on her neck.
"We. Need. To. Stop," each word is followed by his mouth on her skin.
"No, we don't," Adie's breathless tone makes him want to continue but he feels something taking over him. Something that wants to sink its teeth into her neck and it terrifies him.
