Nathaniel's Obsession

Rosalyn stared at him as they ate dinner. He had picked her up from work and insisted on taking her out to eat. It was a shock to her, but she didn't decline his offer. If she thought about it she really enjoyed being with him, he was very different from the people she knew. He said things as they were and he didn't use a lot of words and reading his eyes was not even possible. He was the true definition of unpredictable.

His phone kept ringing but he was ignoring it and it was obvious to her now that there was something serious going on.

"Umm, you should take it. It may be serious," Rosalyn said before she placed a forkful of food in her mouth.

"It's fine. I don't know who's calling and right now, I'm busy," Nathaniel said looking into Rosalyn's eyes.

Rosalyn colored unknowingly. It was like there was a hidden agenda in his eyes and the way he licked his lips. She could guess as much that he was trying to seduce her. She sighed to herself.

"Take it, it's ringing again," Rosalyn said nudging to the phone when it distracted her again. She watched how Nathaniel flared at the phone before he picked up.

As soon as he placed the phone on his ear, she watched how his eyes widened before he began to choke.

"What?" His voice came out strained. "Where the fuck are you? Are you okay? I'm going to fucking—" Nathaniel stooped as his eyes met Rosalyn. It was better he express himself later, he thought to himself.

Shortly after that, the call ended and Nathaniel wiped his mouth before he spoke,

" I need to leave," Nathaniel said, looking into her eyes.

"Told you it was urgent," Rosalyn said rolling her eyes.

"Come with me, I'll drop you off when I'm back," Nathaniel said taking her head and helping her up. They didn't even get to finish their meal. Nathaniel dropped a few hundred dollar bills on the table before they left.

"I will pay you back," Rosalyn said instinctively.

Nathaniel only looked at her strangely. There was a frown on his face. He didn't say anything. He just helped her into the car and they were off.

********

Rosalyn was shocked as they stopped at the side of the road. They have been driving for almost three hours. What the hell? A woman was standing there with her arms wrapped around herself. She didn't see her until they stopped.

Rosalyn watched how fast Nathaniel came out of the car and tightly hugged the woman. He lifted her off the ground as he repeatedly kissed her head. It looked like he was going to be in tears but none of that happened.

He said a few words into her ear before he led her to the car. She got into the back not saying anything and from then on the ride home was silent. Rosalyn could tell that the lady was a bit upset and distraught. She looked very tired.

Isobel didn't want to think about how scared she has been standing out there. The fear of being kidnapped by a person or eaten by a wild animal scared her. The only thing was she couldn't deny how much she missed Angelo, but they could never be together. Their families were long-time enemies.

When they arrived home, Isobel didn't even wait for anyone. She ran into the house and went straight into the bathroom. Rosalyn and Nathaniel were still trying to make it out of the car. He hasn't said anything to her the entire drive and the silence was truly awkward, no she wished she had her car here.
