It was around ten in the morning before either boy woke up but they quickly got up at the sound of loud knocking at the door.
"Lance!" His father called. "We've already called you twice! Pack up and come out so we can check-in and stop at the training center to pick up Rex."
They scrambled out of bed, throwing clothes on, Keith in his outfit from last night.
"Uh yeah- I'll meet you in the lobby. I'm packing now- sorry!"
Keith and Lance exchanged glances.
"I'll bring Rex to the training center and meet you there."
"I'll try not to mention that you stayed the night." Lance grinned. "Lucky me."
Keith rolled his eyes and put a leash on Rex, slipping out of the room after he heard Lance's parents walk out of the door. Lance picked up his suitcase and the boys went opposite directions.
Keith sat in the training center. He was feeling down now that he was losing his best buddy for the last 8 months, Rex, and losing the boy who made him so annoyed and so blissfully happy at the same time.
The McClains came in and talked with Mr. Kogane as they filled out paperwork. Lance talked with Keith.
"Here." Keith said, handing over the leash for the last time. "Listen to Rex and take care, okay?"
Lance sighed, taking the leash. "I will." He sighed. "I'm going to miss you. It's funny. I didn't think you liked me."
Keith laughed. "I didn't." He smiled. "And then I fell madly in love with you."
Lance smiled, sadly. "Will I ever see you again?"
Keith shrugged. "Maybe. Here." He took Lance's phone and put his number in it and took a funny profile pic. "There. Now you have access to me all the time."
Mr. and Mrs. McClain walked over and thanked Keith for his work with Rex and for giving their son back his life. They said their goodbye's and soon left. Keith felt his stomach flip. He looked away from Lance loading Rex up in the backseat and walked back over to the wall of crates. He let Chloe out, the German Shepherd that was trained for emotional support.
"Chloe, cover." He ordered, laying the dog down across his lap as he pet her.
"You loved him, didn't you?" Mr. Kogane asked.
Keith sighed. "Yeah." He paused. "Yeah, I did."
