Chapter Two:
Holiday trip.
Samantha's Pov:
"I think this will be good for you, Sam. You need experience with children before being able to apply for that job anyway." Jacob said as we sat on the colourful rug in the play area.
"Thank you. I really appreciate it." I said as I watched the kids draw pictures at the tables they were at. "I'll even pay you." He added. I shook my head. "I don't need pay, I enjoy being here."
"Nonsense. Running this daycare by myself is alot and it pays well. You'll be here most days I'm not and you should have a salary for your time." I nodded. "Is there anything else I need to know?" I asked him.
"When the kids get here they put their belongings over there." He said, pointing to the wall where backpacks and jackets were. "After that they come over here and watch their morning shows. They get to choose what they want to watch. Then it's arts and crafts. They draw, paint, color or make something if they'd like."
"After that we take them outside to play on the playground for an hour or two. When we come in they have lunch in that room over there." He said, pointing towards a door. "After lunch it's story time. We read them a book and they get to share if they want to. Then we let them play in the play area until their parents come and get them. They usually get here around 6am and get picked up no later than 5:30pm."
I nodded, watching as a little girl slowly walked over to us, a picture in her hand and a teddy bear gripped in the other. She stared up at us with shy blue eyes, her brown hair falling past her shoulders. She slowly held up the picture. "I drew my mommy a flower." She spoke softly, pulling her teddy bear closer.
"That's beautiful, Sweetheart." I said to her. She then smiled, handing it to Jacob. "Will this get me two smileys?" She asked, watching him pick up a packet of colorful smiley face stickers. "Sure will." He answered her sweetly, placing a green and a blue one on her cute little shirt. She stared down at them then back at us. "Thank you, Mr. Reedus." She said, taking the picture back as he handed it to her.
She gave me a long hug, kissing my cheek then running back to the table, grabbing a few crayons and starting to color the picture she drew.
"That's Grace." He said, smiling at me. "She's adorable." I said, sitting on my knees now. "She's one of the sweet ones. There's a few who are a little more rowdy. Like Bruce for example." He pointed to a boy with rather long blonde hair that curled behind his ears. He was drawing all wild like, grunting as his pencil broke and tossing it back into the bin, snatching another and drawing wildly all over again. "He's a little trouble maker. Stealing snacks, pushing girls off swings, using foul language, disrupting story time, bullying." I laughed. "That's how they start."
I watched as Jacob stood up, slipping on his jacket. "Are you alright with being here your first day? Do you need me to stay?" I shook my head. "It's fine. I think I can handle it." He nodded. "I'll be back as soon as I can. I need to pick up my sister at the airport." I nodded again. "Go ahead."
I watched as he walked out the door, leaving me in charge of ten kids.
I looked at the clock on the wall, seeing it was 12:00.
I laid back, putting my hands behind my head and closing my eyes. Maybe they'd just draw or whatever until he got back. Whatever, I was tired as hell from my long day and classes.
"Ms. Smith?"
I slowly opened my eyes, seeing all of the kids surrounding me. They stared back at me, softly whispering to one another as I sat up. "The timer went off thirty minutes ago." Justin said.
