Dog Days

Chapter 1

Dog days

                “Sino naman kaya ang bagong girlfriend ni crush?” sabi ni Leila habang inii-stalk ang kanyang isang profile sa facebook. Aaron peeked at her notebook computer only to see the person he caught making out with another guy a week ago.

                “Wala. Malamang lalake gusto niyan.” He almost blurted yet since he didn’t want to break her hopeless romantic soul, he thought of ways to imply what he wants to say. “Ano ba iyong status?”

                “I’ve been so lucky to find you there baby. Shet. Ang daming likes” Basa ni Leila. “Saka may pictures ng chocolates na imported. Ang swerte ng babae. I heard academic achiever daw yung girl e.”

                “Teka nga. Hindi ka ba nagdududa kasi walang nakatag? Pati yung date kung kailan siya nagka-girlfriend? Or picture man lang ng babae?” Aaron answered as if he was trying to inject some sense to his friend’s mind. He is already tired from hearing praises of that guy.

                “May nabanggit ‘yong kaklase ko. Na kapag ganito raw na parang may girlfriend sa facebook status pero wala naman talaga ay…” saka nag-inarte ang dalaga na waring umiiyak. Hinawakan lang ni Aaron ang balikat ng dalaga saka umiling. “Confirmed. Puro lalakeng nakahubad tapos naka-effect na sexy lips yung mga nag-comment!”

                “Malamang.” Maikling tugon ni Aaron. Leila noted that he sounded so sure with what he said.

                “Parang may alam ka ukol sa kanya a.” sabi ng dalaga saka ngumiti na para bang may gagawin siyang masama sa binata.

                “Wa… wala ah. Ni hindi ko nga alam ‘yung pangalan niyan e.”     

                “Hindi ko alam kung sinungaling ka o talagang hindi mo nakita. Ere o” sabi ng dalaga saka iniharap kay Aaron ang notebook computer.

                “Kristoff Alvarez.” Sabi ng binata. “Shit-” bigla niyang naalala ang nangyari a week ago. Gusto niyang sumuka. “Hindi na talaga dapat ako pumunta doon e.”

                “Pumunta ba saan?” tanong ng dalaga.

                Aaron realized his friend does not know what he is talking about so he lied. “Ah. Wala, sa roommate ko lang. Dugyot e.”

                Leila just gave him a middle finger then signaled the end of their lunch break. They have to go to their respective classes. Aaron hoped that it can somehow detoxify him and gave him focus for remaining. It didn’t help though: he was practically listless the entire afternoon.

                Aaron really wants to clear his thoughts so he went to a bar that evening to drink out the image of guys making out with one another. It seems to be effective though. Nalasing ang binata pagkatapos ng apat na bote ng beer. He thinks that he is too dizzy to stand; he decided to rest his head on both arms. Then he felt a certain presence came near him.

                “Hey. You drunk?” said a voice. It was a man. From what Aaron can tell, they are of the same age yet he is too drunk to care.
