The film Cannibal Holocaust is notorious for its status as the King of found footage horror movies. Many have written it off as nothing more than a cash in on the gore film industry that began to crop up.

However, if you can get past the death, rape and animal abuse there you might find a valid point being made. What does it mean to be civilized or savage?

Throughout the film horrific acts are preformed by the tribes people, from the rape of a tribes women with a stone to the murder of another after being raped by one of the film crew.

On the other hand.

a hut filled with women in children is set ablaze by one of the film crew while his companions laugh and film the whole thing.

In another scene one of the film crew rape a member of the tribe along side two others. One of the film crew attempts to join in.

His girlfriend attacks him,not because they are molesting a helpless women but out of rage for him trying to have sex with another women

The tribe is viewed as barbarians and primitive by our western world view and in some cases are seen as those who need us to advance.

While the camera crew is no different they are still held to a higher  standard than the tribe. To a degree the acts of the tribe are given a pass because of their culture even when their acts are still hard to watch.

If you look at everyday life. People do things that are just as bad if not worse that those in the film.

When their is no one to maintain the moral high ground for a group of individuals who live by them, even the most first rate gentlemen can carry out the worst shit imaginable.
