What is a noun? Well if you have gone to Elementary School, they most likely told you a noun is a person, place, or thing. This is actually incorrect. A noun is instead a person, place, thing, OR idea. Here is a brief explanation of what each of these are:

Person: This refers to any person. For example, your neighbor would be a noun when referred to in writing. Even the fictional characters you make up would be considered nouns because, in the end, they are people.

Place: Any place can be considered a noun. From the moon to your school. Even your bedroom would be considered a noun.

Thing: A thing expands to being anything physical. Even if it is something we can not see, such as air, it is still considered a thing.

Idea (Abstract): Ideas are anything the derives from the mind and can not be touched, heard, seen, felt, or tasted. Examples of these are things like feeling, ideals, and philosophies.
