Bad Timing

Chapter 1

He always had problems waking up in the morning. Chaeyoung hated the idea of starting his day before 12 but as the sunlight hit his face, he lazily got up. The alarm clock did not activate its melody today as he was up before it. He dressed up and walked slowly as possible, trying to not made any sound. He opened the door next to his room only to see his little sister sleeping peacefully. He smiled fondly at the sight and took a picture of his sister just before jumping on the bed, waking her up.

- Wake up, princess.

Chaeyoung kept on repeating his bouncing until the girl opened her eyes in disgust. This made him only happier as he laughed at the pout the younger girl was showing. She hated to be woken up as much as he did and he was sure she was going to be grumpy for this but he had a solution already planned.

- Brother, stop.
- No way, this is fun. Wake up!
- I’m up!
- No, you aren’t!
- Chaeyoung!

He stopped and jumped out of the bed just to get close to his sister who was now sit on the corner of her bed.

- Happy birthday, Tzuyu.

Chaeyoung hugged her as tightly as he could and placed a tender kiss in her temple. She was pleased as her shy smile formed on her face but she was still a bit annoyed for the sudden attack.

- Get ready, we are going out.
- It’s too early to go out. Let me sleep a bit more.
- Nope. Today is your birthday, let’s have some fun.
- But you are not fun, brother.
- Oh? Already a rebel? My little sis is such a young lady now.

Tzuyu giggled and stuck her tongue out just to receive the same gesture from her older brother. They both laughed but Tzuyu was already planning on nap for a while when Chaeyoung continued:

- Come on, Tzu, Dubu is waiting for us.
- Dubu oppa?
- Yeah, he is the fun one after all. Besides, I know how much you love him and…

Tzuyu threw a pillow right to his face just before he finished his sentence. Dahyun was Chaeyoung’s best friend and Tzuyu’s painfully obvious crush. He was, in Tzuyu’s eyes, the perfect guy: sweet, funny and reliable. Also, he was approved by her older brother. The only problem was that he was as old as him, 22, meanwhile Tzuyu was just celebrating her 16 birthday. If they were the same age, Dahyun would totally fall for her, she concluded.

- Get out! I… need to get changed.
- Alright, but don’t take too long, you are pretty already, sis.

The Son siblings arrived to the café near Chaeyoung’s studio. It was their usual gathering spot as it was also quite close from Tzuyu’s school and the desserts were yummy and affordable for them. They all were from rich families but they were taught since young to earn their own money and work for it as the rest of the people their age. The only time they were receiving luxurious stuff was during holidays but even then, they were not receiving anything as amazing as others would think.

A short and milky-skinned man was waiting inside the place. Dahyun stood up as soon as he saw the birthday girl approaching. He gave her a bouquet of flowers and a warm hug before she took a sit next to him.

- Good morning oppa.
- Hey, happy birthday Tzuyu.
- Thank you, oppa
- Today you look prettier than usual, I think I got blessed this morning seeing such a cute girl this early.
- Oppa…
- Hey, cut it out or I’m going to kill you. Just because you’re my best friend doesn’t mean you have a free pass to flirt with my sister.
- I’m just saying the true, you know? She is the prettiest girl I’ve seen, like, ever. How come you two are related? You are so ugly…
- Shut up, you playboy! Tzu, be careful around him, alright?
- As if I would hurt her, you dumb.
- Chaeyoung oppa, please stop, you are embarrassing me.
- I’m sorry, I was just kidding. Let’s eat.

Dahyun had already asked the waiter to prepare the birthday special for them and asked them to be ready for when his friends came. Not long after the siblings arrived, they were surrounded by the staff singing to Tzuyu the traditional birthday song and a cute cake decorated in purple letters forming her name was put in front of the birthday girl. Tzuyu was smiling with glee and Chaeyoung was also quite pleased seeing her that happy.

- Now, make a wish.

Tzuyu looked at Dahyun just before closing her eyes and blew the candles, smiling shyly at her own wish. Chaeyoung smirked knowingly and hit Dahyun’s arm while he filmed a short video of the event. After it, they chatted lively and took some pictures before starting eating. They spent the morning in there until they were full of food and smiles. Then, the group went to the zoo as they knew Tzuyu loved animals and would love the experience.

They walked around seeing the exhibitions displayed, taking pictures while doing silly faces and joking around about resemblances with the animals in there.

- I think Chaeyoung-oppa would be a tiger.
- Oh? I like that, why do you think it?
- Because oppa is brave and strong but also cute.
- Did you hear that? Your sister think you are cute. You guys are adorable.
- Shut up, Dubu. You are just jealous I have a cute little sister and you have that ugly guy as a sibling.
- First time you are actually right; I would love Tzuyu to be my sister. I would totally spoil her rotten.
- As if you don’t do it already…
- Hey! Can you blame me? You do as well!
- I think we both are idiots then.

They laughed some more and walk around the zoo before taking a seat on the benches.

- Oppa, I have to use the restroom.
- Alright, we will wait for you over here.
- Yes, we are old guys now and we are tired already.
- Oppa, you are so dummy.

Tzuyu went away while the guys rested. They were having fun but it was true that they were already exhausted as they had been walking in circles since they arrived. The girl was still full of energy and they both were a bit worried they were going to be spent before going to their final destination.

While Tzuyu was away, Chaeyoung checked his phone and noticed a lot of messages that he hadn’t read. He normally checked his phone many times at day but when he was with his sister, all his attention was to her. Other people was put aside every time; she was his number one girl. He smirked while reading the messages and Dahyun knew quite well who was behind those messages.

- Are you seeing her tonight?
- Yeah, I was planning on cancel it but she seems so insistent that I can’t.
- You are going to be found dead tomorrow morning in a ditch.
- So funny.
- I mean it. You know I don’t like her, she is not a good girl, you know?
- I like her Dubs, she is like… really awesome and you are just misunderstanding her.
- I have never asked you anything before but seriously, you should stop this thing you both have.
- It is love, Dahyun.
- No, it’s not. You are just too… how do I say this nicely?
- Happy? Confident? In love?
- Blinded by lust.
- Wow, really?
- Yeah, really. So, calm your hormones down for a while and think with your head for once.
- I don’t think this is the case but I will be careful, if that is what make you worried.
- Thanks.

They kept chatting for a while until a tall, muscular guy passed by. He was clearly coming back after doing some kind of exercise as he was covered in sweat and was wearing sportive clothes. He stopped in his track as he went to drink water from the fountain next to them. Some water dropped from his mouth, getting his clothes wet. He furrowed his eyes and wiped the sweat from his face using his t-shirt, revealing his toned abs.

Dahyun was mesmerized. He tried to fix his sight but failed. Chaeyoung had noticed this behavior through the years, as they were close friends. If Tzuyu was obviously in love with Dahyun, it was even more obvious than Dahyun was not interested in her or in girls in general. He didn’t mind it as he loved Dahyun as a brother but he was getting tired of seeing his friend struggling with the issue. It was getting ridiculous how he avoided the topic on who he liked, always making up silly excuses not to share this information.  Chaeyoung didn’t want to be pushy, but as they were getting older the topic was being inevitable.

When the guy left, Dahyun was visible blushed and embarrassed. Probably feeling guilty, Chaeyoung though. Tzuyu was taking her time, maybe fixing her hair or something. It was a bittersweet sensation knowing his little sister’s first love was going to be this painful. It was no one fault; it was something that had to happen. Chaeyoung didn’t have rights to forbid anything to anyone.

- Such a hunk, isn’t he?
- What?
- That guy, I think he is very good looking.
- Is that so? I… didn’t notice.
- Really? It looked like you were looking at him.
- Is that so?

Dahyun lowered his gaze. He seemed like he was considering something but his soft gaze changed into a cold one. In a harsh move, he stood up and without looking at Chaeyoung said:

- Whatever, is not as if I was checking him out or something, I’m not…
- Calm down Dubu, it was just a comment.
- Well, I don’t like that kind of comments.
- Sorry, I just though that maybe…

The men were interrupted as their bright girl came smiling. She offered her hands to both of them to keep on walking. Dahyun change his mood in an instant and took Tzuyu’s hand.

- Tzuyu is waiting, come on.
- Yeah… let’s go.

The group continued their journey through the zoo until the sun was setting. Tzuyu was more than pleased with her celebration but the day had not end yet. After a quick meal, they all went to Chaeyoung ‘studio. In there, a present was waiting. The younger man opened the gate and a cute little puppy went on running. Tzuyu yelled in surprise and immediately held the puppy in her arms. She started to play with it and her face reflected how happy she was.

- Uncle is going to kill you.
- You think so? Well, I think is worth it. Just look at her.
- I know but… why a dog?
- Tzuyu loves dogs.
- Alright, but don’t think I’m going to help you taking care of it.
- You’re such a coward Dubu. Just relax and trust me.
- If you say so…

Tzuyu was petting the dog when Dahyun started to act dumb and play along as he was a dog. Tzuyu blushed at how silly the guy was acting. They laughed and keep on enjoying their time together.

- Oppa, brother, thank you so much.
- You are welcome Tzuyu.
- I love you, sis. Happy birthday.

As you can see I'm quite stubborn and write unusual ships. It is mostly as I'm kind of tired of reading the same things all over again. Don't get me wrong, I support all ships but I prefer some variety. I would be pleased if you give me some feedback ☺️
