,,Oh come on, Sam, don't be such a scardy-cat, ha ha!" The boy ran before the girl, encouraging her to follow him to the cliffs. It was a windy, cold evening but they had agreed to go there before such a long time, there was no turning back now.

The girl was scared. I- was scared...

I was only eighteen when it happened. I was with my best friend, almost a brother to me, Sean, following his steps on the rocky, slippery cliffs. Normally I'd be happy to be there with him as we used to visit the place quite often when we were young...younger, I mean. But now- it just seemed too dangerous to me. The sky was so dark I was sure it would start raining in any minute but Sean just wouldn't listen to my warning.

When we finally got to where we originally wanted, it was already pouring at us. Our clothes were wet in a few minutes and through the thunderstorms we almost couldn't hear the other one talking.

,,We should go back quickly!" I shouted at my friend but he suddenly looked completely distant with his mind, looking somewhere at the sea which was right below us. I frowned and followed his gaze until I saw it. There was a bright blue light coming from beneath the stormy sea. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before but unlike Sean, I was more scared of it then mesmerized.

,,What do you think it is?" Sean shouted to me so I could hear him, making a small step forward. I immediately went to him and stopped him from making another. We were way too close to the edge of the cliffs.

,,I don't know Sean but we have to go back now!" My heart was beating so fast and all the sounds around us echoed in my head, making me scared even more. I looked at the boy who was now completely petrified, not listening to me, not reacting to anything I did. His eyes were fixed on the glowing spot in the sea and the light was reflecting in them, like some kind of spell or curse. ,,Sean," I said a lot quieter than before, more to myself than to him. ,,I'll get you out of here." With those words, I started to pull him away by force which thankfully worked, since his sixteen-year-old body wasn't stronger than mine.

I managed to six clumsy steps backwards, before he finally got back to himself. He looked around, confused, and then quickly turned to me. He looked beyond scared. I wasn't sure what he saw in the light but I was sure some part of it had to get into him.

,,Sam!" His voice was shaking and so was his body. He started breathing deeply like he was choking and his face soon changed its colour to deep red. I came closer, not sure what to do.

,,Sean! Breathe! Please breathe!" I felt tears coming from my eyes as somewhere deep inside my head I already knew what was going to happen even if there was no way of admitting it. He couldn't. He couldn't catch his breath no matter how hard he tried. Soon he collapsed onto the rocky ground, holding his neck, looking at me with pained expression. I was crying, screaming his name but there was no way of stopping what came next.

His gasping for air stopped. His body fully collapsed onto the ground and his face changed into a neutral expression with his eyes losing any sign of life whatsoever. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe he was gone. After a moment of shaking with his already lifeless body, I stayed kneeling next to him, watching his body paralyzed while the tears along with drops of the rain were rolling down my face. I'm not sure how long I stayed like that, but when a thunder, louder than any others, took me back to reality, I almost couldn't move my body. I was incredibly cold. I tried to stand up but my first attempt ended up with my face hitting the pointy rocks beneath. I started crying again, not because of the pain but because it worked as an emotional trigger on me.

After a few other attempts, I finally managed to stand up only to meet my gaze with the unknown light once again. This time it shined much stronger than before. I breathed out furiously as the thing, whatever it was, just took my best friend, boy I loved as my own brother, the only person in the whole world who'd been always there for me, even after my dad disappeared and my mom started drinking unstoppably. He'd been always there for me, but not anymore. Now he was dead and it was without a shadow of doubt making of that thing. I looked at it a moment longer, anger gathering in me and pain I felt getting worse. And then suddenly, as I was about to leave my gaze off it, I realized I was falling. Of the cliff, down into the cold and stormy sea.

Everything that happened after that is blurry to me. I was drowning for some time before, right after I was about to lose consciousness, I felt a strange power surround me. It dragged me to what I can only assume was the centre of it and then everything was dark. The only thing I got to see before I died was a bright blue light.

Or- at least I should have died. Nothing else would happen to someone who experienced what I did. There was no way someone would survive such a thing. And yet...
