Interrogation Room B

1:14 AM

(NAMJOON AND OFFICER PAUL SIT ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER IN SILENCE)

Paul: I know you have things to tell me, being the leader of the lacrosse team and all. But I don't want to complete this interrogation based on their descriptions of you...so, Kim Namjoon, tell me about yourself.

NJ: Okay. If you require it.

(NAMJOON FOLDS HANDS ON TABLETOP, LEANS BACK IN CHAIR)

NJ: I am not the leader of the lacrosse team. And I know the other team members wouldn't call me that officially...maybe except Jimin. So...I'm not sure whether you're trying to flatter me or you're determined to get me to confess that I'm leader. I don't understand the way you're going about this investigation--Officer...Paul, right?

(OFFICER PAUL NARROWS GAZE AT NAMJOON)

Paul: Okay, so you aren't the leader of the lacrosse team. Who is?

NJ: Taehyung, naturally. He's an extremely gifted player. Knows the sport inside and out--dedicated to it more than anything else.

Paul: I see...why then are you described as a leader figure?

NJ: I call the plays for games and practices, and generally the members come to me for questions. Taehyung agrees with most of the things I call so it's not really an issue. 'Leader' is just a title, after all.

Paul: Is it? (PAUL CROSSES HIS ARMS) If you insist. Well then, describe for me one thing.

NJ: The events that took place in the sho-

Paul: No. Tell me about Yoongi.

NJ (TAKEN ABACK): Yoongi? What about him? If it's about his...condition?

Paul: No, I want to know what type of player he is, what kind of person he is, and his relationship with Jimin.

NJ: Sir, you do realize that investigations are based on acquiring underlying evidence, not personal secrets. If knowing a person's background somehow helps figure out the events that occurred on a certain date, it seems I haven't been briefed on that scientific breakthrough. Wouldn't it require some type of mental projection of the self to the crime scene? Or is nosiness akin with evidence collection nowadays-

Paul: Enough, Namjoon. You said you would aid us in this investigation, not hinder it. I admit, my procedures do begin with psychological analyses, which can be viewed as abnormal by suspects, especially one as observant as you. But I assure you, these questions allow me to develop a base knowledge of the team dynamic, which is essential for determining the possible culprit. Then the police force goes from there to secure the physical evidence, of which there exists plenty.

NJ: Hmmmm. If there was plenty, I wouldn't be in this interrogation room right now.

Paul (LEANING FORWARD): Let me tell you a secret, Namjoon. Evidence is always there, always accessible in one way or another. The key to getting it though, almost every time, is by first unlocking the evidence of the mind. The mind, and all of its contents, need to be examined by a good detective before progress can be made.
