AS ELPIS WALKED into the slaughtered calf inn, she immediately noticed the lack of people. three women stood cowering to one another, men and women laid to the side, hugging themselves. she noticed a woman sitting at the bar, conversing with the bartender. she had a bow strapped to her back along with a quiver stocked with plenty of arrows.

"leah?" the brunette turned at the mention of her name, her brows furrowed when she saw the strange woman in front of her. "i was told you survived the fallen star?" she nodded, taking in a shaky breath.

"i did, yes, but it blasted my uncle, deckard cain, into the depths of the old cathedral. i tried to search for him, but the dead were already rising. i came back to rally the militia but-" leah was cut off by the sick and injured turning into the monsters that elpis fought earlier. leah gasped - almost falling off of the barstool - and grabbed her bow while simultaneously readying an arrow. the women screamed, running out of the inn and into the streets - probably going to tell rumford about it - while the man behind the bar just ducked.

together, leah and elpis made quick work of the monsters. elpis sheathed her sword right when rumford walked in, his sword out and everything.

elpis smirked, winking at the captain, laughing lowly as his face got red. he put his sword away, walking over to the few bodies that littered the floor.

"you two aren't hurt, are you?" leah shook her head, "the dead will overwhelm us unless something is done." her voice was loud and strong.

"something like putting them back to sleep? i can do that." she was half joking, half serious. she had the tendency to joke at the wrong times.

leah let out a sarcastic laugh before spinning on her heel and walking into a room just to the left of the bar. rumford turned from the now closed door to elpis, smiling when she just shrugged. they walked side by side to the gate in silence.

"so, how are we actually going to stop this?" elpis asked once they got closer to the gate. "i admire your courage, elpis, but captain daltyn and the militia were slaughtered by those things; only i survived." he gave her a strange look, his brows furrowed. "i appreciate the concern, captain, but i can handle myself."

rumford sighed, leaning against the gate, looking her up and down before nodding towards the barricade. "up the road you'll find a few of, what we call, wretched mothers and their queen. they somehow...spit out these horrors." just as he finished speaking, one of the men yelled out; "their attacking the barricades!"

"that's one of the wretched mothers; be careful!"

elpis fought through the seemingly endless hoard, making her way to the wretched mother. she gagged when she nearly got puked on. elpis grabbed her shield, running up and pushing the wretched mother to the floor. she yelled out as she brought her sword down, quickly ending the fight.

elpis nearly cut rumford, sighing when she saw it was only him. "sorry." she smiled, her lip bleeding and nose broken from getting elbowed by rumfords men.

"do you want to wait until tomorrow-" he stuck out his arm, grunting when he pulled her up - "i'm sure-" she shook her head, leaning on him slightly. "i'm sure i'll be fine, rumford. i want to visit the blacksmith that i noticed earlier." she bent down to pick up her sword and shield, grunting slightly.

"i need to repair these."
