THERE Shawn was, masking his feelings right in front of me. After we almost kissed last week, nothing's been the same. He still flirts with me, but he does it with every other girl, too. The other day, he made out with some girl right next to my locker. It's as if he doesn't even care, but I know he does. He just doesn't want to talk about it.
"Hey, Shawn," I called out to him.
"Hey, babe," he replied as I shuddered.
"We need to talk."
"About what?" he asks as if he's oblivious.
"Friday," I told him expecting him to remember.
"What happened on Friday?" Shawn asks me.
"We almost kissed," I said as I became more irritated.
"Oh. Right," Shawn says becoming quiet and anxious.
"Look. I just wanna know if that's why you've been acting so weird towards me," I told him.
It was silent for a moment.
"... I like you. I don't want to rush us or lose what we have," he told me in a soft voice.
"Well, then why can't we just go back to the way we were?" I asked the boy who was noticeably scared, "Why can't we just go back to how we were before we almost kissed?"
"I- I don't know. I mean we can. I was just scared of what was gonna happen. We're only in 9th grade. I-I want us to be together as long as possible," he expressed letting tears fall.
"Why didn't you think about that before you-" was all I could get out before he put his lips against mine. I couldn't help but kiss back.
"I- I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that."
"Quit lying to yourself, and where's Cory? He would've usually jumped in at this point."
"He has mono."
"The kissing disease? He kissed someone?!"
"Not necessarily, but that's funny considering what we just did," Shawn said laughing.
"How did he get mono?" I asked him laughing.
"Steve Nelson sneezed on him," he continued laughing.
"Wow."
"So, I know you know the weirdo, Topanga."
"She's not weird. She just expresses herself more than others, and I love that."
"Well, I think Cory likes her."
"Really?"
"Yeah, but I mean he had it coming. They were each other's first kiss, and they've known each other since like forever."
