Harley p.o.v
I woke up on a little pink bed, dressed in my blue skinny jeans and my pretty black sweater. A man was standing next to a camera, the camera had red light on it. An upbeat song was playing from a CD player next to me and I flinched at the horrid sound, not used to the harsh beat. "Are you streaming this live to the BAU?" I ask
"Yes, I am. So do the right thing and your father won't have to see you die." the man said from the dark corner of the room. The corner seemed out of place to the rest of the room, the darkness contrasting to the bright lights surrounding me. I look around, confused "Where am I?" I ask,
"You're at my home." The man said nonchalantly.
"Why did you kidnap me?"i ask curiously, he looks at me questioningly "Well, kidnappers tend to develop a profile of their likely target before making an abduction based on their overall goals, which usually fall into one of three categories, Financial gain, extremism or emotional disturbance. You've attempted to keep me comfortable which usually means you want or need me for something" I stated, confident that he wouldn't kill me yet. He nodded "you're right, I need you to tell me what's wrong with my wife." he stated, his voice trembling. I nodded and said "In order to diagnose your wife, I'll need to see her" he nodded and picked up the camera before leading me away into a different part of what I'm assuming is his basement.
We walked into another room and stopped in front of a middle aged woman curled into a corner. He nudged me forward and I tentatively walked toward her, she looked up slowly. "Is she goings to hurt me like everyone else.. no? But I thought tha- ok" she mumbled before looking up at me, smiling slightly, "They told me that you won't hurt me, is that true?" She asked tentatively, I nodded and asked slowly "Who told you that I won't hurt you?" She looked around "The voices, don't you hear them.. they won't stop talking to me" she said breathily. "Do the voices tell you people will hurt you often?" I ask softly, she nodded vigorously, I sighed and looked away. I snapped my head towards her when I heard her gasp, "What is it?" I ask worriedly. She smiled, "Don't you see them child? They're always coming here, I think they like me" She whispered the last bit of sentence.I turned toward the man who stood behind me with the camera in his hand, filming his wife and I. "Can you tell me how long your wife has been like this?" I ask calmly. He nodded and answered gruffly "a year and a half" I nodded slowly. "so it's not acute" I whispered to myself.
"Your wife has chronic paranoid Schizophrenia." I informed my kidnapper.
"What's that?" He asked, confusion written on his face. "Paranoid schizophrenia is a subtype of schizophrenia in which the patient has delusions that a person or some individuals are plotting against them or members of their family." I started "Paranoid schizophrenia is the most common type of schizophrenia in most parts of the world. The clinical picture is dominated by relatively stable, often paranoid, delusions, usually accompanied by hallucinations, particularly of the auditory variety, and perceptual disturbances. I mean, Speak the word "schizophrenia" and you'll likely receive reactions peppered with misunderstanding and fear. The disorder is largely shrouded in myths, stereotypes and stigma. For instance, many equate schizophrenia with violence and criminals. But schizophrenia sufferers aren't likelier to be violent than others, unless they have a criminal history before becoming sick or unless they abuse alcohol and drugs. Also, despite its etymology and its portrayal in movies, schizophrenia isn't a split personality: It literally means "split mind."
Schizophrenia is a chronic, debilitating disorder, characterized by an inability to distinguish between what is real and what isn't. A person with schizophrenia experiences hallucinations and delusional thoughts and is unable to think rationally, communicate properly, make decisions or remember information. To the public, a sufferer's behavior might seem odd or outrageous. Not surprisingly, the disorder can ruin relationships and negatively affect work, school and everyday activities.
About one-third of individuals with schizophrenia attempt suicide. Fortunately, however, schizophrenia is treatable with both medication and therapy, making it imperative to recognize the symptoms and receive the correct diagnosis." I rambled.
"You're five years old, how did you know all that?" He looked perplexed. "I have an eidetic memory, an IQ of 167, I speak 12 languages and I can read 14,000 words per minute.. Honestly, if you kidnapped me instead of my daddy you must have known I'd have some hint of intellectual ability" I answered.
