"heya, (Y/N)." Sans pestered, tugging on the hem of your (F/C) sweater. "what do you wanna eat? i'll have grillby put it on my tab."
Upon hearing his offer, red seeped into your cheeks. "N-Nothing. You don't need to w-waste your money on me, Sans!" You smiled. "Just have your bottle of ketchup!" Even though you've known him for over two years, you were still embarrassed whenever he paid for your necessities.
"aw, come on," Sans pressed. "i'll get you anything. i know you're hungry, (Y/N)."
"Are you two lovebirds done?" A sharp voice interrupted you and Sans's conversation. Both of you turned to face Undyne. She was wearing a knowing smirk, and her eyes clearly read, just kiss already.
"U-Undyne!" You sputtered, struggling to hide your reddening face. "We're n-no-not dating!" As you fretted over the state of your face reddening, Sans remained completely calm and laidback.
"we could say the same for you and alphys, undyne." Sans snickered. You surveyed his expression with caution, spotting a blue haze tainting his cheeks.
Oh my God. Was he blushing?
"Quit denying it, you guys," Undyne riposted, taking a sip of her extra hot tea. "Alphys totally ships both of you. Heck, you've already become her number one 'otp.'"
Sans opened his mouth to respond, but was cut off by a lot of "ayiiees" from the crowd. Everybody was looking at you and him, murmurs beginning to ensue.
"Oh my Asgore! They're totally meant for each other!"
"Just kiss already, you two!"
"Found one already, eh Sans? Ahh, young love."
As more remarks were fired, your face was getting redder and redder-- which made the ayiieeing intensify significantly. Sans was starting to lose his laidback self as well. The skeleton was already getting out of his chair and pulling you towards the exit, his hood pulled over his head.
Undyne decided to put a stop to the noise by letting out a loud shriek, which could be heard from outside: "LET ME DRINK MY TEA IN PEACE, WILL YA?! EVEN I NEED A BREAK ONCE IN A WHILE!"
Needless to say, the only remnants of the commotion were soft, wispy giggles.
You and Sans kept on walking down the snowy path of Snowdin, the skeleton mumbling under his breath as he threw his hood off of his head.
"sorry about that," Sans shrugged, letting go of your hand. "i guess.. a lot of people around here 'ship' us." He kicked a snow coated pebble with his slipper.
"not that i disapprove of it, though!" He said almost too quickly. "i actually... enjoy seeing them ship us, you know?"
Your (E/C) eyes widened in shock. Sans enjoyed being shipped with you?! Oh my god, was this a dream?! You let out a sheepish laugh, trying to stop yourself from zoning out.
Having a crush on your best friend. Sounds like a fantasy, doesn't it? It's highly unlikely that such things happen outside of the 'anime' Alphys talks about.
You wanted to confess. You really did; although you couldn't help but feel somewhat anxious that Sans would friendzone you at the last minute.
Unless he confesses first.
Sans had seated himself on a snow decked bench and was beckoning you to sit with him, to which you obliged gladly. You sat down next to Sans as you watched your best friend chug down a bottle of ketchup he'd grabbed before both of you evacuated from Grillby's.
"Brr. It's cold," you mumbled, wrapping your arms around yourself in an attempt to keep warm.
"should we go back to the house?" Sans asked, tossing aside the bottle of ketchup. "you'll get sick if you stay in the cold like this." He quipped.
You shook your head, cracking a smile. "Don't worry, Sans. I've been through worser weather." The skeleton was reluctant to let you off so easily, but he nodded.
All was quiet for a while as Sans twiddled his skeletal fingers, looking down on the floor. Soon, he followed your gaze and the both of you locked gazes.
For a moment, it seemed as if Sans was desperate to say something-- like it was on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't muster up the guts to say it. Upon such a thought entering your mind, you started to get anxious.
What if he was going to tell you he didn't want to hang out with you anymore?
What if he hated you?
"hey, um..." Sans began quietly, "(Y/N)."
You turned to him, your gaze anticipating as apprehension blossomed inside of you. "..... What is it, Sans?" You asked, a slight tint of anxiety lacing your voice.
Sans's left eye flickered blue for a short while before reverting back to white. He seemed... nervous. He wasn't acting like his usual self; he seemed to be harboring abstained feelings that he was so desperate to confess.
"S-Sans," you began, your voice shaky as tears started to shine in your eyes. A look of utter shock flashed across Sans's face, but he waited for you to say something,
You couldn't help but cry; you were a worrywart, a people pleaser. You were worried if Sans hated you or not. "D..." You laced your fingers together, preparing for the worst. "Do you.... hate me?"
Silence. Then, a snicker from Sans.
"why would you think that i hate you, (Y/N)?" He asked, inching closer to you as his hands slowly cupped your face. You felt yourself blush in his grip as Sans pressed a kiss to your lips.
You were shocked; your stomach felt like it was imploding with butterflies. You closed your eyes and enjoyed your very first kiss, savoring every single fantastic moment of it.
When Sans pulled away from you, a sloppy grin was plastered onto his features. "sorry if i scared you or made you paranoid," he said, wrapping an arm around you. "i just didn't know how to confess. i guess i was scared of being friendzoned."
You let out a giggle, kissing his cheek. "I was tense, too," you admitted. "I thought you would say that you hated me." Sans grinned, his eyes meeting yours as he said,
"i think it's time i stopped being cactI and started being cactUS."
