" ready or not! Here I come!" The young, long golden haired boy yelled. He had uncovered his face, beginning to move away from the large tree he had been leaning against. Finally, he soon began searching every area of the empty park, looking for any clever hiding spot that an eleven year old boy could hide in.

After searching for a a , drastically, long five minutes, the boy soon began to grow impatient. " C'mon guys!" He groaned, sighing a bit as well. " this isn't fair. Just because I'm the oldest, doesn't mean I should be the one to seek first. " He looked down at the gravel as he walked around, kicking at a rock every now and then.

As he trailed further and further into the trees of the park, more fear and panic began to rise in him. "Can you at least give me a hint?" He complained, feeling as if he was talking to nothing but air.

Suddenly, a small scratching noise occurred in one of the trees, causing the boy to look up. His small pout soon grew into a large, cheeky smile. "Calum!" He called out in relief.

"Ashton, we can't keep doing this every time we play hide in seek. " the other boy, Calum, who had dark brown hair and eyes, jumped down, landing directly next to Ashton with a small 'thud' sound.

"Yeah I know. But I can't help it. I get lonely, and then I get bored, and then I get... Maybe a little... A little bit scared." He said, mumbling the last part. Calum responded with another giggle, then patted him on the back.

"It's alright, bud. Let's go find Michael and Luke before they think we've abandoned them." Calum then led the way back to the main trail that joggers used. Ashton followed his friend, looking around as he did so.

"Who do you think has the best hiding spot?" Ashton asked, curiously glancing down at Calum, who was a few inches shorter than him. Calum shrugged, trying to stay focused on the small areas that would be easily missed if walking too fast. "Luke always seems to be good at this game." He replied, looking over at Ashton as he stopped walking.

"Did you hear that?" Ashton whispered, causing Calum to stop walking as well, and stare into the direction Ashton was staring."Maybe it's Mikey or Luke." The smaller boy suggested.

Since they weren't sure what else to do, they followed the sound anyway. Ashton was the first to it. "Oh, hi Michael." He giggled softly. "It's just Mikey." He said, turning to Calum who was right behind him. "Really, I couldn't tell." Sarcasm filled his voice.

"Have you guys found Luke yet?" Michael asked, interrupting the other two boys' mini conversation. They both shook their heads. "Not yet. But let's go find him." Ashton smirked, skipping away. Calum rolled his eyes while michael laughed as they soon both followed closely behind him.

[ Ashton's POV ]

Without much looking, Luke suddenly appeared in the middle of the path, his breathing heavy. There was something dark on his shirt, but I'm not quit sure what it was. It was probably mud.
Michael smiled once he and Calum caught up to me. "Yay we found everyone!" He smirked. "Calum's it!" He giggled looking from me to luke.

Luke didn't respond. He didn't talk, he didn't smile, nor did he even move. Michaels's smile soon faded once he realized Luke's sudden change in attitude. I stepped closer to Luke, my eyes trailing down to what I thought was mud.

It's definitely not mud.

My heart nearly stopped beating. Why was there blood on his shirt? Was he okay? I froze, not sure what to do. After I took a minute to get myself together, I continued to step forward. Calum had said something, but I didn't quit catch it, so I stood next to Luke, watching as Calum ran off along with Michael.

I wasn't sure what to say. "Are you alright?" I randomly blurted out. Luke's eyes flickered over to mine, a mortified look in them. That's when he suddenly began to break down.

"I swear I didn't mean it. I-I didn't know h-how to stop!" He yelled, nearly screaming. Tears were spilling out of his eyes. I also noticed that there wasn't just blood on his shirt. It was also on one of his hands.

"Luke it's alright. You can tell me." I tried calming him down, but it wasn't helping much.

Luke looked around, as if he was looking to check that nobody could hear or see them. He soon turned to me. I waited, eager to hear what he had nearly broken down about. Finally Luke's mouth opened, and his eyes looked directly into mine.

"You promise you won't tell?" He questioned, sounding dead serious. I slowly nodded, not breaking eye contact. Luke took a deep breath, closing his eyes, looking as if something terrifying appeared on the screen while watching a scary film, and playing with his fingers nervously. He soon opened his eyes again, turning to me and said, "I killed someone."

My heart stopped beating, or at least I could've sworn it did. He had to be lying. Luke couldn't kill someone, could he?

If only, at the time, had I known that this was only the first time he'd be telling me this, out of many many other times. Luke Hemmings, the shyest kid you'll ever meet, killed someone. Even worse, he didn't even know why, but, he enjoyed it.
