Run. Don't stop. Faster. Eyes ahead. Don't listen to the words they say. Don't listen to the noises they make. Just run. Don't think. Don't talk. Just run.
That's what they tell you before you're released into the world of the monters. Well nobody knows what's out there as anybody who has ever seen whats out there don't ever make it back before the gate closes.
There's 185 runners left, well in my facility anyway, raging in ages 10-45. No one knows how many 'monsters' are out there. Some people think the 255 runners who didn't come backwere turned into them. Nobody evn knows what we're running to. We just run until our alarms go off and then we turn around and run back. The faster you are the more ground you cover and the slower you are, well the less chance you'll make it back.
I'm runner 165. I've been outise the gates 15 times. My parents were runners 4 and 5, only they didn't make it back before the gate closed. We weren't given names at burth so our friends just call us by our parents names. My best friends are Evie, after her mother Evelyn the great runner 7, the twins Sammi and Steph, after they're parents Samantha and Stephen, runners 6 and 9, and last but not least, me, Annie, after my wonderful mother Annabeth (scratch the wondeful part but thats a story for another day).
Anyway, even though the running sucks, I don't really think anyone would wanna live outisde with the monsters. But hey maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing as I would get to see my parents again... if they didn't actuallly turn onto monsters that is.
I'm supposed to run today, Evie and Steph go right while me and Sammi go left. People who are under 18 aren't allowed to go out on their own and we're 16 so we go out in pairs. Under 16's have to go in groups out in groups of four. Anyojne under 10 juts dont leave.
Here's the thing though, something strange happned today. A new alarm went off, one we've never heard before but it didnt sound good.
Well we've laready wasted enough time so lets a get a move on. Heres the story of how my life changed for the best... or the worst.
