We ended up staying in the potential murder mansion because a storm rolled in out of nowhere's. Jungkook wasn't as keen to leave anyways since the jet lag took a toll on him the most. And I suppose all of the recent revelations weighed heavy on him as well. His brothers invited us to dinner inside of their family dining room and was as lavish as you'd expect.
The dining room had a more gothic feel to it than I would've guessed. The table was carved wood pained in black with a large, rectangle slab of glass that was tinted black. All of the table wear, even the plates, were of clear crystalline. There was a massive chandelier above the dining table that was able to light up the entire room where the candelabras couldn't.
The brothers wore their finest clothes, all three in their tailored suits styled to fit their tastes. Namjoon went for the classic navy blue with a plain button-up, the handkerchief in his front pocket was an unusual peacock-colored print. Hoseok wore a simple black button up. Taehyung wore a deep red suit with his also white button-up slightly unbuttoned.
Jungkook and Jimin wore their pajamas.
Lisa and I had to decency to at least wore one of the dresses we made sure to pack. If you're attending a rich relative's funeral, you should always prepare your finest evening wear. Obviously Jungkook hadn't cared nor bothered to tell his bestfriend.
"Lovely attire," Hoseok glances down the table at Jimin's pajamas. "Is that Calvin Klein?"
Jimin looks at his matching set and shrugs. "I got it in the clearance section."
Namjoon smiles and for a second, it seemed a bit condescending. He then proceeds to stand before everyone at the head of the table with one wine glass in hand. "I know that the majority- all, of our guests aren't yet within the legal age range of alcohol consumption but we shall make an exception on this fine night."
The housekeeper peoples fill our glasses.
"I want to make a toast," says Namjoon as he looks around the table, eyeing us all one by one until he makes eye contact with Jungkook. "To our brother from the same mother."
"It's nice to finally meet you," he raises his glass in the air.
"To Jungkook," Hoseok follows in his brother's footsteps.
"To Jungkook," Taehyung does too.
Then the rest of us reluctantly do the same. The meals continue to be served and everyone makes small talk for the majority of it. It's mostly Namjoon and Jungkook slyly throwing digs at one another, the other half was Hoseok and Jimin borderline flirting.
"What a lovely dinner this has been," Taehyung shoots from his chair, earning a noticeable glare from Namjoon, and throws his napkin bib on the table. "But it seems as though I'll have to retire early. I have important business to attend to tomorrow morning."
"It was nice meeting you, brother," Taehyung says to Jungkook.
Jungkook casually nods.
Namjoon's gaze doesn't leave Taehyung until he's fully out of sight. It's not long before Hoseok declares his leave and then it's only him. The atmosphere grows tense and I wanted nothing more than to leave.
"So," Namjoon grins. "How long have you two been dating?"
"Oh, we're n-"
"Five months," Jungkook answers.
Namjoon was definitely an observational person. His eyes wandered between the both of us more than his lips touched his own food. I wasn't sure whether or not Namjoon was truly interested in getting to know his brother or if he just wanted to weed out information for his own ulterior motives. "But I'm assuming you've known each other longer?"
"Do you have a girlfriend?" I ask, trying to steer the subject away from us as I could tell Jungkook was starting to get snappy. I was also genuinely curious as to whether or not any of them had girlfriends.
He nods. "I'm married. She was here earlier with Hoseok's fiancé but they both had more important matters to tend to, they send their apologies."
"Who was the old man at the funeral?" I recalled the two younger girls, maybe just a little bit older than I, and a man old enough to be their father.
Namjoon pauses for a moment to recall this afternoon. "Oh, that's Mason- our family lawyer."
"He's to read mother's will tomorrow morning, you're included, Jungkook," he informs.
We were supposed to be heading out tomorrow morning... sigh.
Jungkook fiddles with his empty glass as if it's the most interesting thing there. He was still unphased, unbothered about everything. I mean, why would he care about a woman he never knew? Could whatever she must've left him be more than what he already has? Jungkook's father was loaded enough and since he was the only heir, his fortunes were enough to last fifty luxurious lifetimes over.
"I don't want anything from her," he says. Jungkook makes serious eye contact with Namjoon for the first time that night.
Namjoon reclines in his seat, the only sign of informality he'd ever shown. Ever since we got here he's held up his guard more than Jungkook. "Our mother wasn't always the most generous person, little brother. The fact that your name is even in the will is a miracle, though Taehyung tried to overrule it as a typo to have you removed— to your luck, it didn't work."
"I'm honored," Jungkook says through sarcasm.
The room goes silent before Jungkook decides to speak.
"By any chance, how sound proof are your walls?"
Namjoon's taken back by his question but proceeds to answer. "Pretty solid, why?"
Jungkook grabs my arm and rises from his seat. I could've sworn that my stomach churned to mush as I rendered what he was inferring to his older brother. It had been a hot minute since I've felt so embarrassed, each and every time he'd been the reason.
"Because I don't think this dinner was enough to satiate my hunger so I'll be finishing my meal in my room," Jungkook then looks down at me. "And because my girlfriend's a loud one."
Jimin scrunches his face in disgust.
Namjoon was surprisingly calm about Jungkook's vulgarity, in fact, he might've even been amused. I, however, certainly was not. Namjoon gestures toward the door. "Let me know if you need new linens."
Jimin could be heard exaggerating fake vomiting noises as we left the dining room.
