Tyler's P.O.V

I looked down at my phone in the middle of history class. Texting my best friend,      Shawn, I couldn't help but ask what was currently racking my mind.

Aye man who was that girl outside today that you bumped me into?

I texted , hoping to quickly get an answer. She had been on my mind since I had first saved her from falling into the fountain. She was so beautiful, with her long curly hair and Victoria Secret Model eyes. She was also really small, especially compared to me.

I don't know dude. I think she's Mackenzie's friend. Why?

Mackenzie had been a casual friend to me for a long time. That couldn't be the case, because I had never seen her around Mackenzie. Or I didn't remember seeing her. But how could I miss that face?

No reason...

As soon as I pressed the send button, I heard my name being called. I turned around to see my ex, Serena eating a sucker seductively.

"What do you want Serena?" she was the head cheerleader, and that was literally her nick name. Head cheerleader. Have any idea why I broke up with her?

"Babe, I heard from some of the girls that you had your hands wrapped around some little bitch this morning," she whispered, giving her sucker a pop.

"So?" I shrugged, as my phone vibrated, signaling I had a text.

"So, you should quit playing games Tyler. Stop trying to make me jealous. You're just gonna come crawling back to me," she said in my ear, as she ran her hand over my chest. I shrugged her hand off.

Yeah, Serena was hot, but she had no real personality or goals. All she wanted to do was hook up, and I wasn't complaining, but that's not all I wanted in a girl.

"There are no games Serena. I'm not getting back with you."

She pretended to be hurt. "Oh whatever Tyler. I'll give you some time to realize what you're missing," she said.

Annoyed, I pulled my phone back out, and checked the message from Shawn.

I just remembered! Her name's Ella.... She was in my group in chemistry. She was really shy....

Ella. I repeated the name over and over again in my head. Ella. Wait.

This couldn't be the girl who was in my 5th grade class, always reading. Her clothes were really ragged, and people made fun of her a lot. I also remember her in middle school. She was a teacher's pet, but girls were jealous because she was really cute. But now, she was just plain beautiful. I could tell her bookworm ways hadn't changed by the way she nearly cried over that book too. I felt bad for not ever talking to her until today after all these years.

The bell rang, and it was the junior's lunch period. I was excited, because there were only 2 more periods after lunch until school was over. Then I could really get to know her.

----------------------------

"Dude, I can't believe you're staring  at Ella Mayer," my friend Chase exclaimed at the lunch table. I snapped out of my daze. I was staring, but I couldn't help myself. I guess Mackenzie was saying something funny, because Ella was laughing and her smile was beautiful and contagious. I just shrugged.

"Man, she's completely a square. All she does is fucking read," This guy from my football team named Charlie said.

"She is hot though," said Shawn. "Yeah, but she has the body of a 12 year old," countered Chase.  "She has nice boobs and a nice butt though, so the rest doesn't matter," said Charlie.

I couldn't take anymore of the guys talking about her like she was an object. "Guys! I didn't ask for your opinions," I interjected, getting up to throw away my tray. "I wonder if she's a virgin?" I heard Shawn say, and that launched the table into a whole new debate.

I tossed my tray in the trash and looked over to Ella's table. Mackenzie was now making a weird face and Ella was almost crying from laughter. I decided to walk over.

As soon as I did, Ella caught a glance of me and stopped laughing. Mackenzie looked over and waved as I approached the table. "Hey Mackenzie," I stated. "Sup Tyler," Mackenzie replied. "Hi Ella," I said smiling at her. She looked up nervously. "Hi," she said quietly. Mackenzie giggled. "What's funny?" I asked confused. "Oh nothing. Ella, I'm gonna go... Talk to Mahogany," she smiled evily at a clearly nervous Ella, then walked off.

Ella sighed, and looked down at her shoes. I couldn't help think about how dainty she looked. Like one rough  touch, and she'd just... shatter.

"So, what book was that? The one you dropped into the fountain?" I asked taking a seat across from her. "Um. It was a play. Romeo and Juliet," she said softly, avoiding my gaze. Usually, I hated when a girl barely talked to me. But her shyness was different somehow. It was like she was a mystery rather than a "square".

"Oh really? Yeah I've heard good things about it. I only really like one book," I confessed. "What is it?" she said lifting and eyebrow. She finally met my gaze. "Ann of Green Gables," I said. She laughed. "Did I say something funny?" I asked, thoroughly enjoying her smile. "No, it's just-- I don't believe you," she shrugged.

"What? Why not?" I questioned. "You just don't seem like you'd like it," Ella  replied. "I think you should know better than to judge a book by its cover," I argued, this time raising my eyebrow.

The lunch bell rang, and I didn't want to leave that table with Ella. She was just starting to ease up around me. "I guess I'll see you after school," She said, grabbing her bag. "Yeah. Don't be late, or I might have to leave without you," I joked. "Whatever." She gave one last smile before she rushed off.
