Many years ago, in the small village of Orion, there lived a powerful, greedy man named Owen. He lived in a lavish mansion and forced most of the village to work for him as servents.

Sadly, there was only ever one person who Owen loved; His granddaughter, Abigail.

One day Owen visited Orion's toy maker, who was also a witch. Her name was Rebecca. He told her he needed the most beautiful doll anyone had ever seen so he could present it to his granddaughter for her 5th birthday.

While Owen was making his order, he spotted the breathtaking golden necklace Rebecca was wearing. It had an amethyst jewel in the shape of a heart. The way it sparkled in the lights tugged at his greed. It was gorgeous. The stone called to his soul.

"Rebecca, tell me about your necklace. It is beautiful. Where did you get it?" Owen asked as he eyed the jewel greedily.

"Oh! My amulet has been passed down from mother to daughter for generations," answers Rebecca as she gently caresses the amethyst. "It was enchanted  generations ago by the first witches of our coven. She gave it a strong magic for protection over it's wearer. It is my most precious heirloom," she explains.

At hearing of the power the amulet possessed, his hunger for it grew.

"How much would it cost me to buy such a jewel from you? I will pay any price," cooed the old man expectantly.

"I am sorry, Master Owen, but my amulet is not for sale. I could never part with this until I pass it on down to my daughter," apologizes Rebecca. "However, your doll will be ready to pick up in two days."

Anger seeped into Owen's heart, but did not let it show on his face. Instead, he smiled brightly, "Thank you, Rebecca. I will be back then," and turned from her and plotted as he walked back to his mansion.

Later that night, when the rest of the village was asleep, Owen woke a young servant boy.

"Jasper! Wake. I need you to come with me now," whispers Owen harshly in the boy's ear.

"Yes, Master Owen. What do you want me to do?" the boy asks as he looks out the window at the darkened sky.

"Follow me!" commands Owen.

Jasper quietly slipped out of bed and followed his master out into the night.
