it was fall, in the middle of a chilly night when a boy, in an over-sized navy blue hoodie opened his bedroom window, his house was empty, but he didn't feel the need to get out through his front door and risk seeing his parent's car drive up the house
he placed a foot on the windowsill, a hand stuck on the upper side of the window, he looked down, it wasn't a high jump, he could take it, he's done it many times before, what difference does it make this time round?
the boy with spiked up hair jumped down, feet graciously kicking the ground with a soft thump, his sneakers got dirty, but he didn't mind. he made his way from his backyard to the streets, money dancing in his pocket
he entered the market that opened twenty four hours, his friend—edd—was the one working the night shifts, so he wouldn't get scolded or dirtily looked at if he had a breakdown or bought the whole stock of smirnoff
tom opened the door, the market was a breathe of fresh air, edd looked up, smiling softly once he realised it was his best friend, "hey tom, don't make too much of a mess today, 'kay? also, there's someone else at the back smoking, he came in a lot of times now, he's friendly so don't worry" edd said, leaning on the counter, still with the same smile
"mkay, thanks edd" tom replied, returning the smile as he reached over the counter to hug his best friend. he bought two smirnoffs and plugged his earphones in and smiling as fallingforyou by the 1975 started playing. he soon prepared himself for the sickening smell of smoke as he walked to the back
a boy with horned hair looked at his side, an eyebrow lifted, cigarette resting between his lips, he smiled. tom sat on the ground, next to the red-hooded boy, he opened the smirnoff and drank it, the boy next to him had been staring at tom for a while, possibly getting lost at his deep and dark eyes
"you a regular here?" the boy asked, the cigarette now between his fingers, "yeah, my friend works the night shift" tom replied shortly, taking a sip of smirnoff, enjoying as the alcohol course through his veins
"tom, right? edd's been talking much about you, i'm tord, by the way" he smiled, offering his hand, tom shook it, a smile dancing on his face, "can you do spray paint? street arts?" the boy asked, and tom looked over, realising there was a maroon coloured bag behind him
"i can, a bit though" tom shrugged, drinking his alcohol once more, "great! i wanna go and do some of that, think you up for it?" tord asked, picking up his bag and pulling out two masks, "how'd you have two masks? predicted this happened?" tom snorted, throwing his empty bottle of smirnoff to the trash can
"wanted to ask edd, but he's a goody-two-shoes" tord scoffed, clearly not liking that his midnight friend obeyed the laws. he handed out the mask to tom, "so, you in on it?" he asked with a smirk that decorated his face and—according to tom— completed and perfected his look
tom took his earphones out and tucked them in his pocket, returning the smirk as he grabbed the mask, standing up and patting his dirtied denim jeans, "let's do it"
