Genocide is a crime that consists of the intentional, total or partial physical elimination of a national, ethnic or religious group, as such, which means that its members are destroyed or rendered incapable of procreation because of their belonging to the group. Genocide can be perpetrated by a variety of means, including mass murder, direct or indirect.
Examples of genocide include the Armenian genocide, the Shoah and the genocide of the Tutsi.
