The coach Ryan hesitated with a strange look on his face hoping it didn't look obvious but Megan who was on edge saw right through it. "It was an emotional day at the trails" said Ryan "Megan you don't mind me saying it didn't go exactly to plan but I've seen lots of greatness in you and I think you're a consistent solid hard defender who with work could be extremely good" Megan started to calm down. "Cody" continued Ryan "wow you were on fire the other day and I've watched you grow and grow, I remember some years back you were very shy and nervous when we first met you but"....."It's alright" said a comforting Gillian to her two daughters. "We're sorry but we are letting you both go" explained Ryan "we cannot continue with you at the club and will be losing you" the girls reacted differently. Megan's face was a I told you so look, while Cody's was pure shock they had done nothing but praise her and were getting rid of her. A stunned Gillian tried to hide her disappointment and upset so it didn't make the girls feel worse. "Why"? Asked a heartbroken Cody. "It doesn't mean we don't think you're any good" said Ryan "but this is an extremely demanding process we have to let people go and we've measured it up for months and we've had to make the awful decision to lose you both." "Hang on though" protested Megan "listen I messed up get rid of me but don't get rid of Cody she doesn't deserve it" an emotional Cody was stunned she was seeing another side from her sister she was out but was trying to save her and wasn't interested in herself. "It doesn't work like that" said a caring Ryan "Megan I know the other day didn't work out for you, but you have been brilliant ever since we seen you same with Cody but for the under 16s we have to select a squad of 30 players out of 50 and we have had to eliminate people." "Megan"!!!! An emotional Megan had had enough and ran out the room. "Sorry about that" said Gillian apologising"Don't apologise" said a caring Ryan "I understand emotions are running high". Meanwhile a stunned Cody who had done her best to keep her emotions in finally broke down. "You can't look at me can you"?"No if you want the truth I can't I've messed up and I've messed it up for you.""You know it doesn't work like that" It was a couple of hours later and the emotional sisters were trying to comfort each other. "At one point they were comparing us to Steph Houghton and Amy and Millie Turner why say that if they're gonna dump us"? Said a confused Megan."Maybe there's better central defenders in the under 14's" said Cody."What next"? Said an upset Megan "coming to the end of year 9 I don't know what to do next I'm not necessarily good at any other subjects other than sport it's GCSES but what then? It's like everything's gone" an upset Cody put her arm around her sister and they hugged. "So you won't be playing for Man United"? "No." "Why"? "Because they got rid of us. ""How"? "Oh for god's sake just drop it"!!!! "Megan for god's sake I know you're upset but don't take it out on your brother" An upset Sam stormed off. "Look I'm sorry" said Megan calming down. It was too late Sam had gone. Sometimes Sam didn't understand things or took longer to process things it wasn't his fault but on this occasion an emotional Megan had no control over her emotions."Now look what you've done" said Gillian. "I'm sick of explaining it going over it over and over again it's over I don't want to be reminded of it" said an upset Megan. "But he struggles" protested Gillian "you should know that of all people I thought you supported him"?"I can't even support myself at the moment" insisted Megan. "Now that's being overdramatic" said Gillian "you've got plenty of options and now you're not at man united you can play for the school team again.""Oh great" said Megan sarcastically "so I've gone from potentially turning professional to just playing after school football.""Actually there are a number of ways you can get involved" said Gillian "they play in a number of tournaments what if another club spots you? I don't know how it works but you never know Jamie Vardy got rejected and didn't turn professional until he was 25.""I just feel so guilty" cried Megan "I'm not holding up at all and Cody is putting on a brave face and she's the one who deserved the chance.""Trust me she's not" insisted Gillian "she's heartbroken she's just pretending everything's ok""I've honestly got nothing left mum" cried Megan "I'm not good at school.""Well that's not what the reports say" said a caring Gillian "you're year 8 report suggested by Year 10 you could be on track for a 7 in English." "All we wanted was to play for man united though" cried Megan "the shirts are in our wardrobes we worship them now when they play next it's just gonna feel weird knowing we could have played for them I don't know how I'll ever feel watching football ever again." "You feeling alright"? "Yeah gotta be."It was the next day and an emotional Cody had just walked into morning registration at school to be greeted by her sympathetic form tutor. "You've got that Maths test today haven't you"? Said the form tutor Miss Roberts "Yeah" replied Cody."I know you're keen to get on with things but you need anything or need to come and speak to me you just email me" said Miss Roberts. "It makes the next couple of years even more vital" replied Cody "not got football so got no plan B at the moment It's time to focus on what's important I just wanna concentrate on school now and forget that experience ever happened." "I must say I am extremely pleased not shocked it's the wrong word to use as I know she's got it in her but with the circumstances just how much progress she's made" It was about two weeks later and it was parents evening and Gillian had just gone to see Megan's form tutor. "The results of her mock exams are just wow" said a pleased Gillian "and I'm not shocked because both my girls work hard they've had such a difficult couple of weeks but I know how tough they are." "If Megan performs like this over the next two years A levels and University is certainly looking like an option" replied the form tutor. "Do you hear that luv"? Smiled Gillian to Megan "see what I told you? Never give up you are going places." "And I see she's playing for the school team again" said the form tutor miss Roberts "which again is pleasing it shows a lot of confidence which has come back we just wanna see you happy Megan and we want you to know that in life we get setbacks but it doesn't mean we are any less.""Well Cody is to credit" replied Megan "she got me playing again by playing alongside me again she's been brilliant she's the one who should still be at a professional club and she's looking after me" "You just amaze me.""Why"?"Max off to Oxford you two doing well as you approach GCSES Sam has made massive progress and none of you give yourself any credit" It wasn't long after Gillian and the girls had returned home from parents evening. "I know mum but it's just when you want something so badly and it's taken away from you that's what it feels like" said Cody "waking up every morning since it happened and you feel nothing it's like you spent months preparing and preparing and now it's gone." "But that's what life is gonna be like" said Gillian "you will want things you will get them you struggle with things I know how much football meant to you but you're at an age now where new opportunities are about to occur, I said that to Max before he started his A Levels you know he struggled a bit at school and with hard work he's found a new desire and a new sense of what he wants.""97 percent oh my god"!!!!"Can't get excited though got to keep my feet firmly on the ground."It was the next day and Max who had received 97 percent on a Maths mock paper was trying to keep calm he wasn't going to dwell on it as it was a good start but the real exams hadn't occurred yet. "When you're a professor or a multi-millionaire please come and visit me" said his friend Alex. "I'll give you some of it" laughed Max "nah I don't think it will come to that won't be that lucky." "Max"????"I will catch you later" said Max who was distracted by the figure who was calling his name. It was around 330 so College had finished and Max who was on his way home was not pleased by who he had just bumped into he carried on walking.
