"Listen Meg I'm sorry I didn't attend your appointment with you the other night" It was about an hour later and Cody was keen to make amends with Megan. "Codes you have to stop this" said Megan. "Stop what"? Insisted Cody."Beating yourself up" said Megan "you can't look after me all the time I don't mean this in a nasty way but don't listen to mum all the time you do enough for me." "I love you" Gillian suddenly appeared. "I love you too mum" smiled Cody. "I'm sorry I've been a bit off with you" smiled Gillian "teenager's ay you work so hard I'm sorry for getting at you." "You seem in such a good mood today" "Well I've had time to think." "How's Megan"?"Yeah getting there." "Come on girls a couple of minutes and then we've got to get going" It was the next day and Cody was in school getting changed for PE. "Where's my bag"?"Under the bench where you left it""No it's not it's been stolen"! It was about an hour later and the girls had returned to the changing room to get changed and Cody was horrified to find her bag missing. "It's here for god's sake take a chill pill" said one of the girls Lexi handing her the bag. "Are you alright?" asked Cody's mate Tamara. "Yes I wish everybody would stop asking me that"? Shouted Cody "for god's sake" "Dad"? "Come on Luv come inside I know there's something up" It was after school and after passing her dad's house Ben had spotted his daughter. "I'm alright" protested Cody."Everyone is just nagging me and it's doing my head in" Cody and Ben sat on the sofa. "Who like"? Asked Ben. "Nobody in general" said Cody."Well that doesn't make sense"! Laughed Ben "you tell me people are annoying you but you're not saying who.""I'm just on edge" said Cody "and Max is like holding it all together and there's me everywhere.""Nothing wrong with that luv" said a caring Ben "Max is chilled but it doesn't mean you have to be.""I don't like putting pressure on you but Megan has been really positive lately she's making progress and I worry if you're acting like this it will put her back." "And that's all you care about"? After speaking with her dad Cody had returned home and was talking to her mum. "No of course not" said Gillian "I care about you I want to sort this out whatever's bothering you and that way Megan is happy too we are all happy.""I'm fine" said Cody. "Can I see your planner"? Asked Gillian."If you really have to" said Cody "I don't know why you don't trust me.""No detentions" smiled Gillian "so you must be on track." "Guess I am" said a dull Cody."Aw Codes that's so sweet of you.""A peace offering I've been a right cow" It was about an hour later and Cody had surprised Megan with a big bar of chocolate. "I fancy some now do you want some"? Smiled Megan."Nah I'm alright" insisted Cody."You're not a cow" smiled Megan "you're a brilliant sister and I'm gonna be out of this chair soon and it's all thanks to you guys". Cody started to cry. "Aw sis" said a sympathetic Megan. "You're too nice to me" insisted Cody "I'm not what you think I am." "I think you're brilliant" said Megan "you're an amazing person I love you so much." "Can we talk proper"? Asked Cody. "Yeah" said a confused Megan "we always talk you don't need to ask.""How are you emotionally"? Asked Cody. "Alright I guess" said Megan "doctor's reckon I'm well ahead of schedule I may be walking in five six months." "I feel like in the last couple of months how do I word this? I haven't really asked you how you are" said Cody "and that's because I've struggled to find the words and I think at times you may think I'm being selfish that I don't care but I've bottled a lot of it in". "Cody I know how you care about me" said Megan "and it's alright to have a cry to have a moan it doesn't bother me I know we can't put a brave face on all the time there's no need to do it just for me" there was silence. "You are one of the strongest bravest sweet natured girls I've ever met" said Megan "and you keep your head held high because you are everything to me."The next day after their emotional chat the two girls were all smiles on the school journey. They were chatting away laughing. They hadn't fallen out but they hadn't been this relaxed in ages. "Look Cody sniffer dogs they haven't been in for ages" laughed Megan as they got to the gate "I love dogs though" Cody didn't say anything. "You alright"? Asked Megan. "Yeah my head is killing" said Cody "don't worry are you alright here? I'm going to get a paracetamol from the nurse before form" Cody broke away from her sister and headed in the opposite direction. "The nurse isn't here until after registration Cody you know that" Cody was stopped in the corridor by the assistant principal Miss Harris. "I don't feel well" insisted Cody. "Well go and line up with the rest of your form get your mark and then come and see us" said Miss Harris "go on chop chop"! "Sort this out, shouldn't take long.""I haven't done anything"!"Ok chill out I'm sure this is nothing" the sniffer dog appeared to hint at Cody as she crossed to go to registration and the form teacher Miss Kelly wasn't making much of a big deal of it but as procedure just had to check her bag. "Come with me" she suddenly ordered "I think you've got some explaining to do young lady.""No wonder you were trying to sneak off to the nurse So have you been selling it taking it"? "It's not mine"! Cody was sat in the assistant principal's office alongside two safeguarding officers after the shocking discovery drugs had been found in her bag. "The head is on the way shortly" said Miss Harris "and we will have to ring the police." "They're not mine" protested a distressed Cody "I'm innocent"! "Well at the moment Cody it's not looking good drugs in your bag" said Miss Harris "so I'm afraid you've got a lot to answer for." "Drug search she's never been near drugs in her life"! A furious Gillian had stormed down to the police station when she had found out Cody had been arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. "You will have to represent her in the interview as her appropriate adult" explained the police officer "and the custody officer has ordered a strip search which due to her age you will have to be present.""Absolutely no way" snapped a furious Gillian "you are not going anywhere near my daughter.""We do have to warn you if you do not cooperate this could make proceedings worse" said the police officer "your daughter has been arrested we need to search her." "But she hasn't done anything wrong" said Gillian "why put her through all that when it's all a big misunderstanding"? "Well if nothing is found there's still the issue of the drugs in her bag" said the police officer "so this is an ongoing investigation." "Well at least they were confident you haven't been dealing it and a caution for possession is all they've given you." "They wasn't mine" after being in the police station for around three hours Cody had been released with a caution. The police hadn't found any more drugs on her just the one in her bag so had decided a caution was enough for a punishment on this occasion. Luckily the school had decided not to exclude her permanently as there was proof she hadn't affected the other students welfare. She'd been suspended from school for a week. "You've been talking to them but now you're really gonna get talking" said a furious Gillian. "And like I said I'm innocent" protested Cody. "I said you've been acting strange these last couple of weeks" said Gillian "now are you really gonna stoop that low and lie? Because if you have been taking drugs I need to know." "It was twice" admitted Cody "the first time I wasn't out with Libby I got it from a lad the second time I put it in my bag but I didn't take it that's when I got caught.""You lying cow" shouted Gillian "so when I felt sorry for you and let you out with your mate you were really buying drugs and who is he? What's his name"? "His name is Andy" said Cody "I met him when I was on my way home from school he felt sorry for me so he offered it me 30 quid well 60 if you count the two". "I gave you that money at Christmas" screamed Gillian "and you blew it on drugs you are unbelievable." "I won't take it again" pleaded Cody "please mum I only took it because I was fed up." "FED UP"!!!! Screamed Gillian "go in there look at your sister and that's fed up you're perfectly healthy got both use of your legs and you sit there feeling sorry for yourself!!!! "Mum" they were interrupted by Max who had walked into the kitchen. "Max no offence but I can't see you now" insisted Gillian."Cody look around you you've got a family who worship you" said Max "and this is what you do why?" "I don't know" said an upset Cody "but I will never do it again it was a mistake.""They target you" shouted Gillian "they get in your head get young girls hooked and before you know it they're addicted and they end up dead he seen you and he hit the jackpot they target the most vulnerable I bet you he said oh this will make you feel better but it doesn't." "Megan's in bits in the living room" said Max "that poor kid has been through hell and she feels sorry for you she's blaming herself." "Well she shouldn't" protested Cody. "No she shouldn't" shouted Gillian "but that's how twisted you are self-centred make everything about you." "She's right" said Max "I get you've been struggling but what you've done we just can't defend you." "Well I didn't have anyone to turn to" protested Cody."I've spoken to you for hours on end" said Gillian "you've been at your dad's how dare you even go there." "I want to put this right" insisted Cody. "Well you can't" shouted Gillian. "I'll show you I know how stupid I was" cried Cody "please Mum don't' give up on me.""I will never give up on you" said Gillian "but right now I don't know what to do with you strip searched in a police station I had to stay with you I even stuck up for you but if they'd have locked you up I wouldn't have disagreed with them.""You don't mean that" said Cody. "Oh don't I"? Insisted Gillian "what's going through my mind is what if you hadn't have been caught would you have started dealing"? "No" said Cody "I would never harm anybody I took it for my own personal benefit well I shouldn't have and I won't do it again." "One dosage of these drugs are enough to kill" said Gillian "that's what is going through my head now if the stuff you got was dodgy and it killed you, you see it happens you hear stories" "I know" admitted Cody "but it's all in the past now because I will never attempt to buy or take drugs again" "You have got off" insisted Gillian "maybe not at home but you've still got the rest of your life to live I want you to remember that and when you look at your sister I want you to think what have I done"?"I love Megan" cried Cody "I've always been there for her." "I'm not saying you haven't" said Gillian "but whenever you feel like you wanna kick off or moan I want you to remember everything you've got."
