Chapter 12

Shelby had not slept , she had been awake all last night thinking about the argument with John . She was worried she had lost for good . She wandered if John and Jay would have gone out and pulled a couple of girls last night and gone to their place . After all that is what she told him. Why had she been so stupid.

She looked in to Jay's room and his bed hadn't been slept in , it looked like she was right John had gone back to his old ways
She skipped breakfast as she didn't feel like eating.. She showered and put on a pair of ripped jeans , and a random heavy metal t shirt and her converses she walked into Jay's room and took one of his blue Flannel shirts a put it over her T-shirt . She wanted to hide her body . She looked on the mirror , she had dark circles under her eyes and her eyes were red from on the crying she had done. she didn't bother with any make up and just brushed her and let it hang down , she didn't style it at all. It wasn't as if she had to look nice for a John anymore . She felt empty inside. She made her way to school , she just hoped she did not bump into John .

Andrew's House
John and Jay had stayed at Andy's house
Andy's mum made them breakfast and the 3 of the made their way to school ,
John had a spilt lip , Jay had a black eye but Andy was unmarked .

" have you got got any idea what you'll say to Shelby ." Asked Andy .

"Not sure if I'll even talk to her , she made it pretty clear we were over ." Said John .
Jay and Andy looked at each other .

"She would probably have calmed down this morning ." Jay said trying to reassure John .

John , Jay and Andy made their way school .

As Shelby arrived school she noticed Jay, Andy and John were already there , they were with the other burners and some girls were with them , chatting to them . Shelby recognised some of the girls from a Johns wallet .
She carried on waking as she didn't want John to see her .

John turned to the girl he had kissed last night "Sorry I shouldn't of kissed you last night ,but I like someone else ." John told the girl .

"Is it Shelby ?" The girl asked and John nodded .
They were all talking about the fight.

Shelby looked over at the group .
Shelby Saw the girl touching John lip  it looked like he was flirting with her , John was chatting and laughing with others . Shelby walk past them.

Jay nudged John "isn't that Shelby ?"

"Can't be , she would never dress like that ." Said John .

"It is "said Jay , she is wearing my shirt . " Shelby looked over and nodded to Jay And carried on walking . "

See what I mean , she doesn't even want to look at me ." Said John .

Jay ran over to her "Are you ok ?" Asked. Jay .

"where were you last night ?" She asked .

"I went to make sure John didn't do anything he would regret then we stayed at Andy's. Sorry I didn't call but it was late.
Did you have breakfast ?
." He said he had noticed her red eyes with dark circles under them , he knew she had been crying ."
She didn't answer .

"Have you eaten ?" He's asked .

" No I didn't feel like it ." She replied .
"Shelby you'll get ill again , this time you might be so luckily ."

" I don't care .." she said .

"You could end up dying next time ." He said concerned .

" so what if I die No one would care ."

"Don't say that I would care ."

"How is John ?" She asked .

"He is in a bad way . Why don't you speak to him ."

"No it's ok ."

Jay went back to the guys .

"How is She?" Asked John .

"Not good Looks like she has been crying and hasn't slept. , she has not been eating either . She said she doesn't care if she gets ill again or dies . She asked how you were though "
John looked over towards Shelby , but she looked away .

John was devastated to hear she was willing to starve herself to death .

Claire had seen what happened, between Shelby and John ,  and saw her chance . She went up to Shelby  who told her about the argument and then John flirting with the girl.

"You can do better than John Bender , I know Steve the star quarter back
Likes you ." Said Claire .

" I am not sure." Said Shelby .

"It doesn't seem to bother him ." Claire said pointing to where John was talking and laughing with a group of girls , the girl he had kissed him was touching his lip.

Claire Took Shelby to meet the football team , she was pleased to see Steve was there.
Steve told Shelby it was out of order what Stubbie had done to her and the football team wanted nothing to do with Stubbie .
. They were then joined a group of cheerleaders, who told Shelby that they too had been groped by Stubbie but didn't have the courage to stand up to him and they thought she was brave to confront him. They girls said they were going to report Stubbie as he shouldn't be allowed to get away with it .

John entered the hall and saw Shelby and Claire were with the football team and Cheerleaders, Shelby had her back to John so she didn't see him . As John saw Steve talking to Shelby he clenched his fists and punched a locker. , Jay grabbed him "he is is only talking unlike you last night, kissing that girl . I don't want you messing with her mind as she is really vulnerable at the moment . You are lucky, you had broken up with Shelby otherwise I would have kicked your arse. ."

John stood back and thought .

Shelby went into the class and sat in the corner , hoping she wouldn't see John .

The bell went and the others entered the room . When she saw John enter the classroom with Brian she kept her head down . She just had to get through the day and then it was the weekend . She had spoken to Broadie and was working on the arrangements about going back to Florida she had nothing to stay in Shermer for. She had been wrong to think John liked her .?

John looked over at Shelby and noticed she was avoiding looking at him , she looked sad , Jay's shirts which was shapeless on her , it was at If she didn't want anyone to notice her. He felt sick to the pit of his stomach . It was as if she wanted to fade into the background. He went to go and sit next to her and sort things out but she looked up and waved for Brian t sit next to her .
He felt crushed .

"What has happened between you and John ? "Asked Brian . "

"There is no more me and John , not that it seems bothers him, Looks like he has already got some replacements lined up from what I saw this morning.

"Are you going out with Steve then ? " asked Brian .
"No , Claire dragged me over to him and the rest of the football team." Said Shelby .

Shelby told Brian about her plans to return to Florida .

All through the lesson John kept looking round hoping to catch Shelby eye but she avoided looking at him .
Brian shrugged and mouthed to John"I tried.
He nodded his appreciation.
