The sun's rays touched the forest, giving warmth to every creature. A black and gray tom and a pale golden tabby shecat padded thought the forest. The tom was slighty bigger than the shecat.

"We really needed this.." The tom murmured. The shecat barely heard him. She was breathing in the warm air and enjoying the heat while it lasted. "Mintpaw.. Did you forget that we're trying to hunt?? Stay focused!" Her mentor hissed. "Sorry, Owlwhisker.. But this day is amazing! Its never been this warm as long as I've lived!"

Owlwhisker sighed, remembering the joy and excitement of being young and innocent and carefree. "Listen. If you do well, I'll let you stay out for a little longer to play. I'll ask Fogsight if she's all right with Snakepaw joining you." Fogsight was her brothers mentor. Mintpaw smiled. "Ok!"

Soon it was midday, and Mintpaw was exhausted. Every step she took she felt more tired. "And you wanted to stay out!" Owlwhisker mewed in amusement. "Hey, stop! I bet you felt this tired at this time of day when you were a apprentice!" Both of them were holding prey, Owlwhisker a squirrel and a mouse, and Mintpaw a small vole. "Alright fine we're done for the day. I'll be right back, I'm getting Snakepaw."

He disappeared into the undergrowth. Mintpaw paced around. She looked behind her after hearing a low growling sound. "Owlwhisker? Snakepaw? Are you playing a trick on me?" She felt scared. She felt.. like someone as watching her..

She saw a flash of orange brown fur go by. Maybe it was her mother, Goldenwind. "Mother? Is that you?" She asked uneasily. The thing got closer.. and closer.. and closer.. until.. it lunged! She gasped and everything went pitch-black...
