Here's a question: Does the good outweigh the bad? Or does the bad outweigh the good?

Why?

Are we defined by our mistakes, or by what we do and feel after committing the mistake?

Let's pretend that there is this hypothetical person who donates to charity and so far managed to save a few thousand children because of that.
However, a recent news report said that this person is founf to be physically abusing her husband.

Is she a good person? A bad person? If you were to know of her bad deeds before her good deeds, would it change your perception of her? Does the order of knowing it matter?

Another case: What if desperation drove the person to do bad deeds?

If a 5 year old kid were to steal from a bakery because he was starving and was thrown out by his parents, must he be punished for it? Or is his actions excusable? What if you were the owner of that bakery and he stole from you? Would your answer change?

If you were to take the 5 year old kid and change it into a 20 year old adult, would ypur answer remain the same? (assuming that they did the same thing and was in the same circumstance) Why?
